THE REPRODUCTIVE
SYSTEM:
MALE
PAGE 10
What is the function of male reproductive system?

● To provide sperm cells/

spermatozoa
● To provide a place for the
storage of sperm
● To carry and deliver sperm
to the urethra
● To produce the male sex
hormone called testosterone
The male reproductive organs are:

testes epididymis urethra

vas deferens seminal scrotum

vesicles
prostrate seminiferous
gland penis
tubules
TESTES

● The testes of the unborn boy

first develop inside his body.
● The testes are the primary
male reproductive organs.
● The functions of testes are:
1.To produce sperm cells
2.To produce testosterone
SCROTUM

● Skin that covers the testes.

● Scrotum together with testes
is called testicles.
SPERM TUBES/ SEMINIFEROUS TUBULES

● The seminiferous tubules are

found in the testes where the
sperm cells are produced .
EPIDIDYMIS

● A coiled tube where sperm is

stored temporarily.
VAS DEFERENS

● A hollow tube where the

sperm passes before urethra.
URETHRA

● A tube that leads down from

the sperm tubes to the penis.
● A passageway for urine and
semen, like penis.
PENIS

● Is an organ that hangs down

in front of the scrotum.
● Covered with loose skin
called foreskin & prepuce.
● Has no bone
● Made of spongy cells and
blood
Male Sex Glands

SEMINAL ● Glands that produce part of

VESICLES the seminal fluid that help
the sperm to move around
PROSTATE actively.
GLAND
● Sperm + seminal fluid =
COWPER’S semen

THE REPRODUCTIVE
SYSTEM:
FEMALE
PAGE 10
What is the function of male reproductive system?

● To produce egg cells or ovum

● To receive sperm cells
● To provide a place where the
sperm cell can fertilize the egg cell
● To nourish and develop the
fertilized egg
● To produce sex hormones called
estrogen and progesterone
The female reproductive organs are:

Ovaries uterus

Fallopian tube cervix

vagina vulva
OVARY/ OVARIES

● Almond-shaped organs.
● the primary female reproductive
organs.
● The functions of testes are:
1.To produce egg cells/ ovum
2.To produce estrogen and
progesterone.
FALLOPIAN TUBES

●the OVIDUCT
●This is where one egg
(ovum) from the ovary
passes through.
●Passageway of mature egg
cell from ovary to the
uterus.
UTERUS

●the WOMB
●Hollow, pear-shaped organ.
●This is where fertilized egg
is implanted.
●This is where unborn baby
develops.
CERVIX

●the Lower end of uterus.

●Ring muscle
●To close off the uterus.
●Connects vagina to
uterus.
VAGINA

●the birth canal

●Soft-walled tube with a
mucous membrane.
●Serves as canal which
the baby passes through
during birth.
VAGINA

●Hymen – soft ring tissue

that covers the opening
of the vagina.
●Note: hymen varies
from woman to woman.
VULVA

●External parts of female

organ
●External genitalia.
Other Female Sex Glands

● Causing female breasts to

develop in size.
Mammary ● This cause females to
Glands produce milk after
pregnancy.
