portfolios; tests ; and other learning tasks.
◦ This requires review of journal entries, written work, presentation,
research papers, essays, story written, test results, etc. OVER-ALL GOAL ◦ To improve student learning and provide students, parents and teachers with reliable information regarding student progress and extent of attainment of the expected learning outcomes.
◦ Assessment results show more permanent learning and clearer
picture of the students’ ability. Assessment of Skill vs. Assessment of Understanding
◦ - Assessment of Skill is relatively easier than assessment of
understanding or mental ability.
---Because skills can be practiced and are readily demonstrable.
Either the skills exist at a certain level or not. ◦ Assessment of Understanding is much more complex. ◦ We can assess a person’s knowledge in a number of ways but we need to infer from certain indicators of understanding through written descriptions.
