KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN

AND NORTHERN IRELAND

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was
created on January 1, 1801 by merging the Kingdom of
Great Britain with the Kingdom of Ireland. It existed until
the establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922 and the
subsequent renaming of the country to the United Kingdom
of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in 1927.
GEOGRAPHICAL
LOCATION

The United Kingdom of Great Britain

and Northern Ireland is located in the
British Isles. The British Isles are
separated from Europe by the English
Channel. The British Isles are
washed by the North Sea in the East
and the Atlantic Ocean in the West .
POPULATION OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OF
GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND

Over the centuries, people have migrated to the British Isles from many parts of the world,
some to escape political or religious persecution, others to find a better life or escape
poverty. Immigrants from the European mainland joined the local population of Britain
during the times of the Roman Empire and during the invasions of the Angles, Saxons, Jutes,
Danes and Normans. Many Irish people used to come here. Many Jews came to Britain in
the late 19th century and in the 1930s. After 1945, many other refugees from various
European countries settled in Great Britain. Large communities moved from the West Indies
and South Asia in the 1950s and 1960s. There are also significant communities of
Americans, Australians and Chinese, as well as other Europeans such as Greeks, Ukrainians,
Poles, Serbs, Estonians, Latvians, Armenians, Italians and Spanish, Russians. In the early
1970s, significant masses of immigrants from Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Sri Lanka
began to arrive in the country. People from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh make up more
than half of the total non-indigenous ethnic population, with people of West Indian origin
the next largest group. The population of foreign origin is almost completely concentrated
in the center of the country, especially in London.
WEATHER

The climate of the United Kingdom is moderately

oceanic with a lot of rain during the whole year.
Temperatures vary depending on the season, but rarely
fall below -12 °C or rise above 35 °C[24]. The main
winds are from the southwest and often bring cold and
wet weather from the Atlantic Ocean, but the eastern
parts of the country are largely protected from these
winds, and since most of the precipitation falls in the
western regions, the eastern regions are the driest. The
Atlantic currents, warmed by the Gulf Stream, bring mild
winters, sometimes there are snowfalls in winter and
early spring, although the snow usually does not last
long.
ATTRACTIONS

1. Big Ben is the most recognizable clock of london

Every tourist who set foot on London's land first of
all wants to see the historical buildings of the city.
One such attraction is Big Ben. The legendary clock,
which has been telling the exact time for one and a
half centuries, is considered a business card of the
metropolis. The construction of the clock tower
lasted during the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837
to 1859.
2. Palace of Westminster Westminster Hall Big Bag is one of
the palace towers The Palace of Westminster is an equally well-
known landmark of the city. Until the beginning of the 14th
century, the palace, located on the banks of the Thames, was the
residence of the kings. The great fire of 1834 destroyed most of
the old castle. 3 of all rooms of the luxurious building survived
only Westminster Hall, which served as a hall for ceremonial
receptions, and the Tower of Jewels, which housed the treasury
of King Edward III.
3.Tower Bridge of Taiep Fortress Enumerating the main
attractions of London, one cannot fail to mention another
symbol of the city - the Tower fortress. It is the oldest building,
built in 1078, located in the historic part of the British capital.
Rising from the north side above the Thames, the Tower has
managed to be a defensive fortress, a residence of kings, a mint,
an observatory, a place of imprisonment for prisoners and even
a zoo during its many centuries of existence.
