INTRODUCTION
A device driver when taken in the context of computer technology simply refers to
a program (software) normally developed by the hardware manufacturer to allow
it to interact with the computer system. This driver program is used by the
different components and applications in the machine to execute a specific task
like printing, DVD reading and writing, or connecting to the Internet among
others. Device drivers are generally specific to the underlying Operating System
and hardware dependent which means that the correct version must be installed
to ensure proper operation of the supported device. In most cases, a new
hardware is accompanied with its own device driver and in other instances the
manufacturer provides a downloadable (often updated) version from their own
website.

COMMON PROCEDURES IN INSTALLING
DEVICE’S DRIVER.
1. There are various ways how to install a device driver. To download from a
website, proceed to the next step. To install from an optical media, go to step 4.
To use other removable storage types, jump to step 6.
2. Launch your web browser and go to the website of the manufacturer of your
hardware or use any search engine like Google or Yahoo! to search for the
appropriate device driver.
Michael U. Mamitag
3. Save the file to a folder in your hard drive. Upon completion of the
download process simply run the device driver to install it.
Michael U. Mamitag
6. Device drivers may also be distributed using removable storage like flash
drives. These types usually represent driver updates to take advantage of
functions in newer Operating System platforms. Insert the flash drive in the
appropriate port.
7. Wait for the Operating System to recognize the removable storage media. The
process may start immediately the installation process.
8. If the installation does not begin automatically, simply open the explorer
program and navigate to the appropriate drive. Locate the executable file which
will launch the device driver application.

9. Make sure to choose the correct version which corresponds to your
Operating System. Follow the onscreen prompts until the process is
completed.
10. In all device driver installation procedures, make sure to scan the
files with your protection software before beginning the process. Once
the device driver has been successfully installed into the system,
reboot the machine to ensure all changes are reflected in the
Operating System.

Note:
Specified hardware (Motherboard ECS 865G-M8 Insyde BIOS) is my
chosen device used to demonstrate the installation procedure via
installation disc. Different devices have different installation
instructions, if you are going to install driver of your device, I
strongly recommend that you must read the manual in order to
obtain successful installation.

The support software CD-ROM that is included in the
motherboard package contains all the drivers and utility
programs needed to properly run the bundled products.
Below you can find a brief description of each software
program, and the location for your motherboard version.
More information on some programs is available in a
README file, located in the same directory as the software.
Michael U. Mamitag
Cautions
Never try to install all software that is not specified for use with
your device e.g. Motherboard ECS 865G-M8 Insyde BIOS.
If the Auto-install CD-ROM does not work on your system, you
can still install drivers through the file manager for your OS (for
example, Windows Explorer.
Before installing any software, always inspect the folder for
files named README.TXT, INSTALL.TXT, or something similar.
These files may contain important information that is not
included in this manual.

you are installing
Insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive and locate the PATH.DOC file in the
root directory. This file contains the information needed to locate the
drivers for your motherboard.
Look for the chipset and motherboard model; then browse to the directory
and path to begin installing the drivers. Most drivers have a setup program
(SETUP.EXE) that automatically detects your operating system before
installation. Other drivers have the setup program located in the operating
system subfolder.

If the driver you want to install does not have a setup
program, browse to the operating system subfolder and
locate the readme text file (README.TXT or
README.DOC) for information on installing the driver or
software for your operating system.

b. via Network

Procedures
1. Share the directory that contains driver in a
network/shared network.
2. Determine the ip address or the hostname of
source/shared folder in a network.
3. Access the folder by connecting its ip
address or hostname
Michael U. Mamitag
Example. Go to start button or press windows
button on your keyboard then press R > type
“\\192.168.1.1>then press enter then you will
find the shared folder on a network. Make it
sure that you remember the shared folder
name.
4. Enter to your shared folder and press .exe setup
file. After this step you can follow the preceding
steps discussed on “via Installation Disc”.
