    Optical devices use light, lenses, mirrors, and prisms to improve our ability to see tiny or faint objects invisible to the naked eye. Microscopes combine multiple lenses to magnify tiny objects, such as microorganisms first seen by Leeuwenhoek. Refracting telescopes use two convex lenses inside a tube, with an objective lens gathering light and an eyepiece enlarging the image. Reflecting telescopes use a large concave mirror as the objective to collect and direct light to the eyepiece. Binoculars contain two short refracting telescopes fixed together, using prisms to allow for a shorter tube, upright image, and depth perception.
