What is Electrical Installation and Maintenance?

It is the process of installing

and maintaining electrical
systems and equipment. It may
include tasks such as installing
wiring, repairing or replacing
damaged equipment, and
inspecting electrical systems for
safety.
 Electricians need specialist tools to do
their job effectively and safely, so their toolbox
should include a range of heavy-duty, insulated
hand tools and high-tech tools they can use
wherever their work takes them.

Here are some of the tools used in electrical

installation and maintenance:
1.Pliers- often referred to as cutting pliers or
lineman’s pliers — are a staple on any electrician’s
tool belt. They are mainly used for cutting wire, or
gripping, twisting, bending, or straightening wires.
2. Electrical fuse- is a safety device that operates to
provide protection against the overflow of current
in an electrical circuit. An important component of
an electrical fuse is a metal wire or strip that melts
when excess current flows through it.
3. Switch- is an electrical component that can
disconnect or connect the conducting path in an
electrical circuit, interrupting the electric current
or diverting it from one conductor to another.
4. Electrical outlet- receptacle providing a place in
a wiring system where current can be taken to run
electrical devices. synonyms: electric outlet,
electric receptacle, outlet, wall plug, wall socket.

5. Electrical Cord- it temporarily connects an
appliance to the mains electricity supply via a wall
socket or extension cord.
6. Screwdrivers- these are tool made of steel
hardened and tempered at the tip used to loosen
or tighten screws with slotted heads.
7. Hammers-used for driving or pounding and
pulling out of nails.
8. Electrical tape- is an economical general
purpose insulating tape that has excellent
resistance to moisture, abrasion and corrosion. It is
used to insulate electrical wires, insulate other
material that conduct electricity and make minor
repairs to damaged wires.
9. Wire stripper is a small hand-held tool that is
used to remove the insulation from electric wires.
These portable hand-held tools are extremely
popular among electricians and even DIYers for
removing the insulation in order to replace or repair
the wire.
10. Voltage testers - measure AC/DC voltage and
continuity. They are a critical piece of equipment
for testing connections and shorts in cables. Most
voltage and continuity testers have an LED
indicator and also sound an audible tone.
