Good Morning

Everyone
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit, Divine Creator, true source of light and fountain of
wisdom! Pour forth your brilliance upon my dense intellect, dissipate
the darkness which covers me, that of sin and of ignorance. Grant me a
penetrating mind to understand, a retentive memory, method and ease
in learning, the lucidity to comprehend, and abundant grace in
expressing myself. Guide the beginning of my work, direct its progress,
and bring it to successful completion. This I ask through Jesus Christ,
true God and true man, living and reigning with You and the Father,
forever and ever.

Amen.

Solving Quadratic
Equation by using
Quadratic Formula
Objectives:
•The Learner's know on how to get the value of a,b
and c in the standard form of quadratic equation;

•And solve Quadratic Equation by using Quadratic

Formula.
What is Quadratic Equation?
•A quadratic equation is a mathematical expression
that describes a specific type of polynomial equation.
It is called "quadratic" because it involves the square
(second power) of a variable. In essence, a quadratic
equation represents a relationship between a variable
(usually denoted as "x") and its square, along with
linear and constant terms.
•Quadratic equations can have two distinct real
solutions, one real solution (a repeated root), or two
complex solutions (conjugate pairs of complex
numbers). The solutions are found

equation in a single variable, typically written in the

form:
aײ+b×+c=0
What is Quadratic Formula?
•The quadratic formula is used to find the roots of a
quadratic equation. This formula helps to evaluate the
solution of quadratic equations replacing the
factorization method. If a quadratic equation does not
contain real roots, then the quadratic formula helps to
find the imaginary roots of that equation. The quadratic
formula is also known as Shreedhara Acharya’s
formula. In this article, you will learn the quadratic
formula, derivation and proof of the quadratic formula,
along with a video lesson and solved examples.
•An algebraic expression of degree 2 is called the
quadratic equation. The general form of a
quadratic equation is ax²+ bx + c = 0, where a, b
and c are real numbers, also called “numeric
coefficients” and a ≠ 0. Here, x is an unknown
variable for which we need to find the solution. We
know that the quadratic formula used to find the
solutions (or roots) of the quadratic equation ax² +
bx + c = 0 is given by:
Examples of How to Solve
Quadratic Equations by the
Quadratic Formula
•Example 1:Solve the quadratic equation 2x²-5x - 3 =
0 using the quadratic formula.

In this equation:
- "a" is the coefficient of the x² term (2 in this
case).
- "b" is the coefficient of the x term (-5 in this
case).
- "c" is the constant term (-3 in this case).
Now, plug these values into the quadratic
formula:

x = (-(-5) ± √((-5)² - 4(2)(-3))) / (2(2))

Simplify:
x = (5 ± √(25 + 24)) / 4
x = (5 ± √49) / 4
x = (5 ± 7) / 4
Now, we have two possible solutions:
1. x = (5 + 7) / 4 = 12 / 4 = 3
2. x = (5 - 7) / 4 = -2 / 4 = -0.5
So, the solutions to the quadratic
equation 2x² - 5x - 3 = 0 are x = 3 and x
= -0.5.
•Example 2:Solve x² + 4x-12= 0 using the
Quadratic Formula.
In this equation:
- "a" is the coefficient of the x² term (1 in this
case).
- "b" is the coefficient of the x term (4 in this
case).
- "c" is the constant term (-12 in this case).
•Example 3: Solve the quadratic equation below
using the Quadratic Formula.

In this equation:
- "a" is the coefficient of the x² term (1 in this
case).
- "b" is the coefficient of the x term (5 in this
case).
- "c" is the constant term (-14 in this case).
That’s it! Make it a habit to always check
the solved values of
x back into the original equation to
verify.
•Example 4: Solve the quadratic equation below
using the Quadratic Formula.

This quadratic equation is absolutely not in the form

that we want because the right side is NOT zero. I
need to eliminate that 7 on the right side by
subtracting both sides by
7. That takes care of our problem. After doing so,
solve for
The final answers are x=1 and x=-2/3.
•Example 5: Solve the quadratic equation below
using the Quadratic Formula.

This quadratic equation looks like a “mess”.

I have variable x’s and constants on both
sides of the equation.
If we are faced with something like this,
always stick to what we know. Yes, it’s all
about the Standard Form. We have to force the
right side to be equal to zero. We can do just
that in two steps.

-I will first subtract both sides by

5x, and followed by the addition of
8.
