• Electromagnetic waves:

are transverse waves

do not need medium for propagation, can propagate through vacuum

have speed in vacuum, c = 3.00 × 108 m s–1, and move with lower speed in any
medium

show phenomena of reflection, refraction, diffraction and interference under


suitable conditions

transfer energy from one place to another
