Let’s Review! Ratio and

A ratio is a comparison between two numbers or
quantities A proportion is an equation that show two
ratios are
equivalent.

Idea of Similarity
The idea of similarity is different from congruence
because congruent images must be the same size and
shape wile similar shapes only need to have same shape.

Similar Triangles
Two triangles are similar if and only if their corresponding angles
are
congruent and the lengths of their corresponding sides are
proportional.
The simplest form of the ratio of the lengths of the two corresponding sides
of similar triangles is the similarity ratio.

Explore the similarity of two triangles that have 2 sets congruent

corresponding angles.
• You can adjust the size of each set of congruent angles
with the sliders.
• You can adjust the lengths of 𝐴𝐵 and 𝐷𝐸 by dragging the
endpoints.
• You can move the triangles by sliding the segments 𝐴𝐵
and
𝐷𝐸.

Reflect: Make a Conjecture

Are two pairs of congruent angles

enough information to conclude that
two triangles are similar? Explain.
Yes; by the Triangle Angle Sum Theorem, the third pair
of angles must have the same angle measure and thus
are congruent, so the triangles must be similar.

Finding Missing Measures in Similar Triangles
Because corresponding angles are congruent and corresponding sides are
proportional in similar triangles, you can use similar triangles to solve real-world
problems.
