Day 7 [2:1-3]
[“the heavens and the earth and all their host“]
• THE FIRST PANEL ABOVE FEATURES HABITATS AND DWELLING PLACES. THE
SECOND PANEL FEATURES THE CREATURES MEANT TO DWELL IN THOSE
HABITATS. EVERY CREATURE WAS GIVEN A UNIQUE AND SET-APART DWELLING
THAT WAS ONLY FOR THEM. THIS SHOWS THE SPECIAL CARE AND CONCERN GOD
HAD PUT INTO THE ENTIRETY OF CREATION. WHAT WAS ONCE CHAOTIC AND
FORMLESS IS NOW A BEAUTIFULLY ORDERED WORLD.

• A parable is a succinct, didactic story, in prose or verse, that illustrates
one or more instructive lessons or principles. It differs from a fable in
that fables employ animals, plants, inanimate objects, or forces of
nature as characters, whereas parables have human characters.
(Wikipedia)
• Parables are used to teach a lesson or make a general point about a
larger philosophical or religious issue, or to instruct people about
proper courses of action. Because the stories are easily understood and
engaging for all types of people, parables are an effective way to reach
potential believers.
• It has been noted, since the late nineteenth century, that the parables
in the Gospels fall into three groups. These are usually given the
names (1) similitude, (2) parable, and (3) exemplary story
(sometimes called illustration).
• The parables tell us that: It is present in the lives of those who
believe. People respond differently to the message of the Kingdom
of God. The Kingdom of God starts small with the individual and
increases to include the whole of society.
Why did Jesus start teaching in parables?
• When asked by the disciples why he used parables, Jesus said that he would
fulfill the words of the prophet and reveal the mysteries from the foundation
of the world. ... This important message can be found in most of the parables.
• In the Synoptic Gospels, listeners ask Jesus about the purpose of his parables.
... According to Matthew, Jesus speaks in parables because the people do not
see, hear and understand. The reason for their inability to comprehend, is
their rejection of Jesus.
