BRAIN
• The most complex organ in the human body.
• It is part of the central nervous system
including the spinal cord.
• The skull protects the brain.
• It consists of three main parts such as
Cerebrum, Cerebellum, and Brainstem.

Cortex
um
Cerebral Cortex
• It is the outermost surface area of the brain
and is composed of folded gray matter.
• It covers the cerebrum, which is the largest
part of the brain and,
• Is responsible for many of the brain’s
functions, including perception, cognition,
and movement
Cerebrum
• It is the largest part of the brain and is located at
the top of the brain
• It is divided into two hemispheres: the right
cerebral hemisphere (controls the left side of the
body) while the left cerebral hemisphere (controls
the right side of the body).
• The main function is to regulate senses, memory,
intellectual activities, and body movement.
Limbic System
• It composes parts of the cerebral
cortex and hypothalamus which
regulates various types of
emotions.
• It is located in the middle of the
brain, beneath the cerebral cortex
and above the brainstem.
Thalamus
• The cerebrum receives sensory information from
the Thalamus.
• It is connected to all major parts of the brain
including the cerebral cortex.
• it receives information, organizes and then sends
information to the cerebrum.
Hypothalamus
• Located below the Thalamus
• It regulates many vital bodily functions and
controlling the release of hormones.
Cerebell
• The cerebellum functions
um directly with the
cerebrum to receive information from the sensory
system and the spinal cord to regulate balance,
postures, and coordinate movement.
Brainstem
• It composes nerve fibers that carry signals to and
from all parts of the body.
• Its functions are for safety and survival such as
breathing, consciousness, heart rate, body
temperature, blood pressure, digestion, and sleep
cycles.
