Around 70% of the planet’s surface is covered by oceans. In fact, the
oceans hold about 96.5% of all water on Earth.
The largest ocean on Earth is the Pacific Ocean, covering around 30%
of the Earth’s surface.
The name “Pacific Ocean” comes form the Latin name Tepre
Pacificum, “peaceful sea.’’ The oceans are nearly as old as the Earth
itself. Scientists believe that the oceans contained at least some of their
water more than 4 billion years ago. If all the salt in the ocean was
removed and poured onto the continents of Earth, it would cover them
to a depth of 500 feet.
Indian ocean
The Indian Ocean has a total area of 73,440,000 square kilometers or
28,360,000 square miles.
Its size makes the Indian Ocean the third largest body of water in the
world. It covers approximately a fifth of the Earth’s surface.

Pacfic ocean

The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest of Earth's five oceanic
divisions. It extends from the Arctic Ocean in the north to the Southern
Ocean (or, depending on definition, to Antarctica) in the south, and is
bounded by the continents of Asia and Australia in the west and the
Americas in the east.
