ENERGY

RESOURCES!!!
PRESENTED BY: ROSHAN AND AHIL
Energy Resources and their uses…
• In a world of evolution, where changes happen frequently, keeping up with its
pace could be hard. Energy resources are materials which are harnessed to
extract energy for the world’s daily usage. These are split into two types based
on their availability and ability to be replenished: Renewable and Non-
renewable. Renewable resources are replenished within a short period of time
whereas non-renewable ones take a lo more time. These resources are of
many types based on their sources. Some include solar, geothermal,
geothermal, wind, tidal, bio-fuels, coal, etc. In this seminar of ours, we will ook
into nuclear and geothermal energy in detail.

Geothermal Energy!
• The hottest layer of the Earth is the core.
Heat from the core from over a billion of
years has been radiated outwards towards
the crust heating rocks on the way forming
magma. Not just this, but the decaying of
radioactive isotopes also release heat
energy. This heat energy is also taken
harnessed by letting water flow through
small cracks present in the crust that allow
the heat to pass through. When the water
heats up, it turns to steam and eventually
turns turbines inside a power-plant and
spins the generator to produce electricity.

PROS AND CONS OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY
• Renewable source of energy. • Energy is not easy to be transmitted

• Production is not stopped based on over long distances.

fluctuations like solar or wind • Initial setup cost is high so it is not

energy. very economical.

• Much more environmental friendly • Not accessible in certain areas.

than other energy resources.

• By-products of geothermal energy

aren’t harmful.

NUCLEAR ENERGY!
• Nuclear energy is the energy created by
splitting atoms. This process releases
huge amounts of energy and is known
as Nuclear Fission. The heat created
from the splitting of the atoms warms
the cooling agent which is usually water
and produces steam. From here, the
steam turns a turbine and spins a
generator to provide electricity as a
result. This process is very dangerous so
it is performed under safe conditions in
nuclear power plants.

PROS AND CONS OF NUCLEAR ENERGY
• Produces large amounts of energy. • Uranium is mostly used and is

• Low carbon-footprint. technically non-renewable.

• Lowers atmospheric pollution • Very high installation costs for the

around the site. plant.

• Small amounts of nuclear fuel can • Malfunctions could lead to

be used to run the plant over a long catastrophic damages.

period of time. • Nuclear waste is produced.
