Norunic letters
Thorn – þ – and the crossed d – đ, ð – were
replaced by the digraph th, which retained
the same sound value: [Ө] and [ð]
the rune “wynn” was displaced by “double
u” – w – ;
the ligatures æ and œ fell into disuse
