COLONY
Organised Union convinced for 250 litres per day per family Distribution of 500 litres on alternate day basis (taking 45 mnts to 1 hour time for filling) Regulate the supply colonywise at a timeto adequate supply at farthest point Power supply of concerned colony cut to avoid tapping by Tullu pumps Unauthorized connections cut & new hand pumps installed

Water taken from JUSCO through hired tankers 6 no of tankers used New deep tube wells installed 4 nos of 2500 GPH New 30 nos Hand Pumps installed in Colony Supply through BTPN wagons from Rourkela & Manoharpur Exposed and damaged Check Dam was repaired

(Jamshedpur Utility Services Company part of TISCO)

JUSCO was requested to supply water through pipeline. But they expressed inability due to political repercussions considering the acute water crisis in the complete area JUSCO agreed to supply from its exclusive DIMNA LAKE through Railways Tankers

CRISIS MANAGEMENT: Measures Taken Supply through BTPN from ROU & MOU
Two rakes of 8 & 7 BTPN Wagons formed to make round trip of loading & unloading First 10 days supply taken from Rourkela Problems raised by political party, FIR lodged BTPN rakes shifted to MOU Special pumping & pipeline arrangements made on emergency for loading & unloading

MOU IOW & Electrical / G staff quickly rigged up the arrangements for loading og BTPN wagons ROU IOW staff made arrangements of loading BTPN wagons by gravity through polythene pipe TATA IOW & Electrical / G staff made arrangements to unload the BTPN wagons TATA RPF staff helped to clear the unauthorized persons from Filter House

Political problems raised on taking water through wagons


At Rourkela local political persons made issue against taking water from ROU/Orissa to TATA/Jharkhand FIR was lodged at GRP police station at ROU BTPN wagons taken out from ROU & shifted to Manoharpur in Jharkhand area. Problems also raised at MOU, Local administration questioned taking water from MOU to TATA. Issues raised in Newspapers

LESSONS LEARNT
Distribution network to be segmental Understanding with unions on minimum water supply to colony in emergency Inform office/units about emergency arrangements: They adjust consumption as per supply. Arrangements for loading & unloading of BTPN wagons to be made ready at identified stations

LONG TERM MEASURES


More deep tube wells to be installed, 30 40% of the requirement to be used as backup Alternative water source to be identified & developed, e.g. Reservoirs of capacity of 2 months supply Repair / rehabilitate check dams, if avilable State wise locations to be developed for taking water through BTPN wagons Co-ordination with state govt. authorities
