CONNOISSEURSHIP

MODEL
•Connoisseurship model, as proposed by Elliot
Eisner, essentially consists of two key
components: Connoisseurship and Criticism
Eisner’s connoisseurship model
• An approach to evaluation, emphasize to
qualitative appreciation.
• According to him it is important to get into the
details of what is actually happening inside the
classroom.
• Eisner’s developed and proposed the
Connoisseurship model on the belief that
knowledgeable or expert evaluator can determine
whether a particular curriculum program has been
successful using a combination of skills and
experience.
Eisner’s Connoisseurship Model
• Connoisseurship • Criticism
-art of appreciation -art of saying things about
-recognizing and complex.
appreciating -helping others to see
what they might not have
seen before.
Aspect of Criticism

• 1. Descriptive aspect- an attempt to characterize and

portray the relevant qualities of education life.
• 2. Interpretative aspect- enlighten the rules, and the
regularities
• 3. Evaluate aspect- the underlying architecture. Where
judgements are made in an effort to improve the
educational processes, it present a better argument. Or
proper evaluation of results.
Steps:
A. Description- as the term implies this is the stage
where the connoisseur describe the current state of
the curriculum program. Recreating the class
program through verbal statements, using
language and figures of speech is a common
practice.
Steps
B. Interpretation- this stage provides an
understanding of the curriculum program. The
knowledge and skill of the connoisseur will come at
play in providing rationale on why and how the
curriculum is at the state.
Step:
• C. Evaluation- in this stage educational
significance and effects of the interpreted
experiences are evaluated.
