What are social groups?
In everyday speech people use the term group to describe any collection of individuals
whether 3 strangers sharing an elevator or thousands at a rock concert.
However, social group is formed by two or more individuals who consistently interact
based on shared expectations and possess a common identity. These people may have
similar norms values expectations and they continuously interact.

Primary group consists of small number of people who
interact over A relatively long. Direct intimate basis the
relationship among the members have an emotional depth
and the group tends to endure over time.
All groups tend to maintain their boundaries by developing a strong sense of distinction between the
“WE” of the group and the “they” who are outside it.
The very existence of an in-group implies that there is an out group viewed as they or them more
formally in our group is a group to which people feel did not belong. One typical consequence of an in
group membership is the feeling of distinctiveness and superiority and seeing themselves better than the
out group.
