Module 2: ARNIS
BRIEF HISTORY: Arnis was developed by the
indigenous populations of
the Philippines, who used
an assorted range of
weaponry for combat and

spears.
In 1521, equipped with nothing more than
bladed weapons and their fearsome Arnis
abilities, Filipino islanders defeated Ferdinand
Magellan‟s armored, musket- bearing Spanish
conquistador forces when they tried to invade.
Equipment
Arnis utilizes the various implements such as
bladed weapon with the length of an itak or
bolo, truncheon, swagger stick, dagger or
knife and a long pole.
The standard equipment is the stick or the
cane. It is made of rattan, dried and rounded
at both ends. The cane is 12 to 36 inches in
length and about ¾ to 1 inch in diameter
while a standard cane is measured 28 inches
long. Kamagong is also famous cane known
