WHAT IS THE WRITTEN REPORT?

The written report is an explanation and summary of the processes, proceduresand outcomes of
the research. It should include the material collected, reasons for selection and analysis of the
materials.
The report should be about 250 – 300 words in total.
it is worth 10 marks.
KEY TERMS
PROCESSES:
Focus on describing how the group collected the three pieces that were most appropriate for the group report
and the difficulties you may have experienced doing so. If the group had no difficulties, give a reason for
this.
PROCEDURES:
Summarize hoe the group went about analyzing the materials. For example, what was done to achieve the
objectives of the research? How did the group decode/ analyse the material? What did the analysis reveal?
The analysis covers the relevance of the material/ stimulus/ pieces and the artistic/ visual/ literart/ aural
features of what was selected.
OUTCOME
Focus on your experience as a group and your impressions. Outcome cover the new knowledge gained about
the theme/ the selection process/ the group as members who were involved in the research. Strategically
summarize the findings that the pieces/stimuli provided by way of individual and group analysis.
The written report is a collaborative
effort. It should show evidence of
research and appropriate referencing.
OUTLINE
PARAGRAPH ONE (INTRODUCTION):
State the theme that the group has selected and how this was done. Also identify the topics the
group members are focusing on.

PARAGRAPH TWO:
Summarize how you worked as a group to select the three pieces for the report. Share strategies
that were used to do so. Explain the reasons for the selection of the three pieces.
PARAGRAPHS THREE AND FOUR:
Analyze the selected pieces and highlight what they communicate abut the theme. Appropriate
referencing should be used when citing the source. Also discuss how the content of the pieces
impacted the perceptions or attitudes of group members.
EACH MEMBER OF A GROUP WILL
INCLUDE THE SAME WRITTEN REPORT
IN HIS OR HER PORTFOLIO.
ASSESSMENT

The group report is assessed for an identification of the contexts in which pieces were chosen,
a description of the tasks done in selecting the materials, analysis of the material,
appropriate citation of sources and use of language.
1. CONTENT: 4 MARKS
• What different aspects of the theme did each member investigate?
• Was it easy or hard to find piece/ artefacts? Why?
• How did the group decide what three piece/ artefacts to use?
• How many pieces/ artefacts did the group have? What were the names of the three cxhoosen?

2. EVIDENCE OF INVESTIGATION: 3 MARKS

• What did the group learn from the three pieces/artefacts?
• What was the major issue in each piece/artefact?
3. LANGUAGE USE AND VOCABULARY: 3 MARKS
• Grammar and mechanics
• Utilise vocabulary/ jargon from the stimuli
EXTRA INFO

• The three artefacts must be included after the report of the SBA for each member of the group.
• All members from a group must have the same report
• APA format to be used
• 300 word limit
• You will be penalized for spelling and grammar
• YOU MUST INCLUDE A REFERENCE LIST AT THE END OF YOUR PORFOLIO. THIS
MUST FOLLOW APA FORMAT
EXAMPLES
The members of our group investigated many different aspects of marriage, like benefits of being married,
infidelity, addictions in marriage, effects of divorce on children, domestic violence within marriage and marital
problems.(Sub topics identified ) The artefacts were very easy to find because marriage is a very prevalent topic,
which is widely discussed in books, magazines and even on the internet. However, there were very few articles
specific to Trinidad and Tobago, which made it somewhat difficult as well. In total, our group had eighteen (18)
artefacts to choose from. (Process mentioned) The three artefacts chosen were, Marriage by Jean Margaret, The
Cost of Addictions on Family by Jessica Bosari, and Daddy Walked Out by Yvette Johnson. (Include year of
publication) The group met in school after the end of term examinations, discussed what artefacts were the most
interesting, and gave the most information about the topic. The three (3) artefacts chosen were shared with all
group members to include in their project. (Reason for choosing the stimuli mentioned)
From the first artefact, Marriage, we learned that marriage depends on respect and acceptance for each other to
succeed and that marriage bonds two people in body and mind. In the second artefact. (Issue in stimuli clearly
identified) The Cost of Addictions on Families, we learnt that addictions such as alcoholism and drugs can result in
financial problems and even lead to divorce. In the third artefact, Daddy Walked Out, we learnt that sometimes
divorce could benefit the children, as they will be able to live in a peaceful home and have parents who are less
stressed and more focused on their wants and needs. This creates an environment that is more suitable for a child’s
emotional stability and growth. (Vocabulary from stimuli utilised) Among many other things, we learnt that
marriage is beneficial because it provides companionship, as well as spiritual, financial and sexual benefits. We
also learnt that infidelity, domestic violence and addictions are the main causes of divorce
The sub-topics for the theme of volcanoes were causes of volcanic eruptions, the explanation of a volcanic eruption, safety
tips during a volcanic eruption, types of volcanoes and effects of a volcanic eruption. ( Topic and subtopic mentioned)
Volcanic eruptions are a major disaster worldwide. One problem in finding the artifacts was that there were a few artifacts
specifically about the Caribbean. In total the group had 15 artifacts to choose from, the artifacts chosen were a story entitled
“Volcano”( 2011) by Olivia Practico, a poem “Volcanic Eruption”(2010) by Sathya Guna and “Safety Tips”(2015) by www.
Nationalgeographic.com. (sources of information clear, evidence of research shown) The group met in school after end of
terms examinations, discussed what artifacts were the most interesting, and gave the most amount of information about the
topic. (Reason for choosing stimuli mentioned, can be expanded) All group members did their relevant research and the
information was sent and discussed via WhatsApp, which made the SBA successful.
The three artifacts chosen were shared with all group members to be included in their project. In the poem “Volcanic
Eruption” we learned the effects of an eruption. These effects include: losing property, killing people and flights blocked. In
the story “Volcano” we learnt that a volcano is dangerous and destructive, a volcano can be destructive by melting
everything in its path, killing people and liquefying houses and schools in a split second . In the “Safety tips”, we learnt that
people must protect themselves from the ashes caused by volcano lava, they can protect themselves by wearing emergency
masks, close windows, doors and block other vents and wear protection during cleanups. (Main issue in the stimuli
mentioned) The main issues in each artifact are the damages caused by a volcanic eruption and the precautions one must
take to survive .The group intends to share the safety tips for during a volcanic eruption with fellow students in school, as in
July 2019 a mud volcano erupted in Trinidad. It caused no hard because it was far from homes, but there are other mud
volcanoes near communities in the country. (Context shown in effect on student)
