Survey on Hand-Based

Haptic Interaction for

Virtual Reality
In this survey, we explore the use of hand-based haptic interaction in virtual
reality and its importance for user experience.

by ANURAG K
What is Hand-Based Haptic Interaction?

Haptic interactions allow users to feel feedback that mimics real-world experiences. Hand-based haptic
systems use gloves, exoskeletons or tactile stimulation to provide haptic feedback.

Survey Methodology and Objectives
We conducted a survey on haptic feedback systems to understand user preferences and opinions and to
identify areas for improvement in the technology.

1 Target audience 2 Questions

500 VR users were interviewed from We asked questions about the user's
different countries, ages, and professions. experience with haptic feedback systems,
their preference, and suggestions.
Findings of the Survey

1 Over 70% of respondents find haptic feedback helpful

The majority of users found haptic feedback helpful in immersive and interactive
experiences, with a particular preference for vibration feedback.

2 Gloves are the most preferred haptic devices

VR gloves were largely preferred over exoskeletons, providing greater tracking accuracy
and tactile feedback.

3 Users reported the need for more diverse haptic feedback

While most users found current haptic feedback systems sufficient, many expressed a
desire for more diverse and personalized feedback, such as heat, cold, and texture.
Conclusion and Future Directions
The survey revealed that haptic feedback is important in VR experiences, and glove-based systems are
preferred by users. Our findings suggest that continued research in haptic feedback technology could benefit
VR users.
