they took this from Perrin.

Question 5. Do I have to double space
my report?

• No.
• As I am marking these through blackboard, spacing is not as

Part 2. Feedback from the week 4 assignment

1. Lack of alphabetical order in your reference

list.
2. Lack of hanging indents in your entries.
3. Information from ‘less than credible’ or
irrelevant sources.
4. Failure to answer part two effectively.
5. Reliance on citation generators.
6. Dated research.

Issue 1. Lack of alphabetical order in your
reference list.

• Ensure entries are in descending alphabetical order, from

A-Z.
• If multiple entries start with the same letter, order it
based on the second letter.
• I.e.
• Sajn
• Sakamoto
• Smith

Issue 2. Lack of hanging indents in your
entries.

• There are two ways to do a hanging indent:

• 1. Highlight – right click – ‘paragraph’ – ‘special’ –
‘hanging’
• 2. Use the ruler option at the top of the page. The
lower triangle will move the lines after the first one.
• Using the space or tab functions will mess up the entire
format.

Issue 3. Information from less than credible
sources

• Use sources from experts in their field.

• Sproutsocial is not credible. It is informative.
• Capterra blog is not credible. It is informative.
• ‘Informative’ and ‘credible’ are two different things.
• Graduating from university with a bachelors degree does not
necessarily make you a credible source!
• Don’t settle for content creators.

Issue 4. Failure to answer part 2 effectively.

• You were asked to respond to the question of ‘why is this

source credible?’
• Some did not explain this.
• Explain why you trust the source, based on the authors, or
where it has been published.

Issue 5. Reliance on citation generators

• Citation generators are, at best, ‘just okay’ until you

manually input the necessary information.
• You would not settle for ‘just okay’ when fixing a car, or
doing work on your home.
• The best citation generator is the one built into the
library database.
• Make sure your references/citations contain the right
information, in the right places.
• When using the library database generator, ensure you
reference is presented in the APA format.

Issue 6. Dated research

• Don’t worry too much about dated research.

• Research in IPM advancements or trends in modern
horticulture needs to be recent
• Research documenting uses and characteristics of certain
plants may still hold up after 50+ years.
• Use your discretion (and don’t get hung up on the ‘C’ of
the CRAAP test).

Keep asking questions as they come up, and I
will keep answering them.

Good luck! Now move on to 5a. Quoting,

paraphrasing, and selecting the right
information.
