Awareness of Best Practices

for X – ray Exams and Key Prevention

Techniques
THEME: “Patients are our passion, safety is our priority”
What is an X – ray Radiation?
X-rays are a form of energy – like
light and radio waves. X-rays are
also called radiation.

Unlike light waves, x-rays

have enough energy to pass
through your body.

As the radiation moves through

your body, it passes through
bones, tissues, and organs
differently.
What is the importance of X – ray?
X – ray is used to:
• noninvasively and painlessly help to
diagnose disease and monitor
therapy
• support medical and surgical
treatment planning
• guide medical personnel as they
insert catheters, stents, or other
devices inside the body,
• treat tumors, or remove blood clots
or other blockages
Why do we need to have X – ray Exam.
This quick and simple imaging test can spot problems fast in areas
such as your bones, teeth and chest such as Pulmonary Tuberculosis
(PTB). The early detection of TB disease can prevent in the
worsening of the disease and helps prevent the spread of TB in later
stages.
Is X – ray safe?
Some people worry that X-rays aren't
safe because radiation exposure can
cause cell mutations that may lead to
cancer. The amount of radiation
you're exposed to during an X-ray
depends on the tissue or organ being
examined.

Generally, radiation exposure from an X-

ray is low, and however, the benefits
from these tests far outweigh the risks.
Is X – ray safe in
pregnancy?
• However, if you are pregnant or
suspect that you may be pregnant,
tell your doctor before having an X-
ray. Though the risk of most
diagnostic X-rays to an unborn
baby is small, your doctor may
consider another imaging test, such
as ultrasound.

Risk of getting side – effect from X –ray is (0.000001%)

Advantages & Benefits of X - ray
• Following are the
advantages of X-Ray:
➨It is cheaper and simple
technique.
➨It has lower radiation
compare to CT scan.
➨It helps to diagnose tumors
easily without the need of
surgery.
Advantages & Benefits of X - ray
➨X-rays are widely used
by radiologists to identify
cracks, for infections, to
identify level of injury, and
to identify abnormal bones.
➨It helps to locate alien
objects inside or around
bones.
Advantages & Benefits of X - ray
• support medical and
surgical treatment planning

• guide medical personnel as

they insert catheters, stents,
or other devices inside the
body, treat tumors, or
remove blood clots or other
