Adapted from the novel of the same name by the Thảo
American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925
Hồ Hữu Trường
Main actor: Leonardo DiCaprio
The film was set on Long Island in 1922, the
beginning of the era Roaring Twenties. This was a period
Physical setting when the world economy, especially the US economy, grew
to a peak of prosperity that ended in the Great Depression of
1929.
of the film The life of Gatsby, the main character in the film,
was pessimistic and accurate prediction for the unstoppable
demise of American society at that time.
Gatsby was a huge symbol
in American popular
culture.
Gatsby represented a type of
person who rose from
nothing, with a dark past, a
mysterious lover, people in
life have reached the peak of
glory and then lost
everything. We could see in
Gatsby a sacrifice to the
flamboyant vanities of the so-
called "American Dream".
Gatsby also had an uncanny
capacity for hope that never gave
up, had a sincere and noble
passionate love and had an
innocent romance that was not
tainted. Those qualities had built
up a complex Gatsby who was both
a victim, a clown, and a hero at the
same time. The ups and downs in
Gatsby's life were also clear
evidence of the ephemeral,
temporary, and uncertain nature of
human life.
Gatsby's life and the whole of 1920s
America could be compared to the
very trendy yellow Rolls Royce that
Gatsby owned - accelerating madly
forward, losing control and
eventually leading to disaster
