PROSTHETIC LIMBS

A limb prosthesis is an artificial limb

that replaces a missing body part,
usually because it has been amputated.
They enable people who have lost a limb
to regain mobility and carry out a
variety of tasks since they are made to
resemble the structure and functionality
of real limbs. Prosthestic limbs can be
artificial hands, feet, legs, and arms.
They are made of different materials
and designs to accommodate varying
degrees of amputation and demands. By
assisting amputees with daily tasks and
encouraging an active lifestyle, these
gadgets can greatly enhance their quality
of life.

WEARABLE MEDICAL
DEVICES

These devices have grown in favor recently due

to their capacity to track numerous facets of
a person's health and offer insightful
information to both users and medical
experts. Numerous health-related metrics,
including heart rate, blood pressure, sleep
patterns, physical activity, glucose levels, and
more, can be tracked and recorded by smart
wearable devices. They can also be used to
detect some medical disorders early on and
offer insights into an individual's overall well-
being. Data from these devices is frequently
used by medical practitioners to help them
make better decisions regarding the care and
wellness of their patients. They can assist
with illness management, remote patient
monitoring, and preventive healthcare.

NURSEBOTS
In order to provide features like intelligent
reminders, telepresence, data gathering and
surveillance, mobile manipulation, and social
interaction, the NurseBot integrates state-of-
the-art research in robotics, artificial
intelligence, interaction design, health care,
and social science and psychology.
Instead of forcing the elderly into nursing
facilities, it is meant to assist them live
independently. The elderly can receive
companionship, assistance with everyday
duties, and even remote communication with
caregivers and doctors thanks to this personal
mobile robotic helper.
One example of a broad area of international
study into "Assistive Technologies" for the
elderly and disabled is NurseBot. The
NurseBot project aims to create transportable
personal care robots that can help older adults
with chronic illnesses in their daily lives.
HOW CAN NURSES
MAINTAIN THEIR
COMPETENCY IN
NURSING WHEN
USING
Nurses play a vital role in healthcare. According to a Nursing theorist named Jean Watson "Nurses are a unique kind. They have this
TECHNOLOGY?
insatiable need to care for others, which is both their greatest strength and fatal flaw.” As the world evolve, our healthcare system has
also acquired helpful ways in order to enhance the quality of care that healthcare professionals needed. The collaboration between
nurses and robots should be viewed as a partnership to enhance healthcare delivery rather than a replacement of human nursing. And
despite all this advancement maintaining competency in nursing while effectively using technology is essential.

In the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare, technology is becoming increasingly integrated into nursing practice. Nurses must
continually adapt and maintain their competency to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care while harnessing the power of
technology. Firstly, ongoing education is paramount. Nurses should engage in continuous learning to stay updated on the latest
technological advancements and their applications in healthcare. This can be achieved through formal education, workshops, online
courses, and attending conferences focused on healthcare technology. Additionally, nursing schools and institutions should incorporate
technology-focused curricula to prepare future nurses. Secondly, hands-on experience and practical training are crucial. Nurses should
familiarize themselves with various medical technologies, electronic health records (EHRs), telemedicine platforms, and patient
monitoring systems. Hospitals and healthcare facilities should offer training programs and simulations to ensure nurses are proficient in
using these tools effectively. Thirdly, nurses should prioritize patient privacy and data security. With the use of electronic health records
and telehealth platforms, safeguarding patient information is paramount. Understanding and adhering to HIPAA regulations and
cybersecurity best practices is essential to maintain patient trust and protect sensitive medical data.

In conclusion, nurses can maintain their competency in nursing while using technology by committing to continuous education,
gaining practical experience, and upholding ethical standards for patient privacy and data security. Embracing technology in healthcare
can improve patient outcomes, streamline processes, and enhance the nursing profession, making it imperative for nurses to stay
competent in this digital age.
IN WHAT WAYS CAN NURSES
ENSURE THAT THEY DO NOT
LOSE THEIR CARING ROLE
AND VIRTUE AMID THE
TECHNOLOGICAL
ADVANCES IN
According to Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing “Nursing is one of the fine arts: I had almost said ‘the finest of fine arts.’”
HEALTHCARE?
Some say nursing is an "art of caring" because it involves more than just technical skills and medical knowledge. It encompasses a holistic
approach to patient care that emphasizes compassion, empathy, and understanding. By emphasizing these unique qualities and skills, nurses
can demonstrate their value and distinct contribution to patient care. To ensure that nurses do not lose their caring role and virtue amid
technological advances in healthcare, it is important to advocate for patient-centered care and ensure that technological interventions are
used as tools to enhance the overall patient experience, rather than overshadowing the importance of human interaction. While technology
can enhance efficiency and improve patient outcomes, it should never replace the human touch and the compassionate care that nurses
provide.

Firstly, nurses should prioritize patient-centered care. While technology can streamline processes and enhance diagnostic capabilities, the
human connection is irreplaceable. Nurses should actively listen to patients, address their emotional needs, and show empathy and
compassion. The art of healing is just as crucial as the science. Secondly, maintaining strong communication skills is essential. Nurses should
effectively convey information to patients and their families in a clear and empathetic manner. Technology can assist in communication, but
the nurse's personal touch is what builds trust and rapport. Thirdly, nurses should advocate for their patients. While technology can provide
data and support decision-making, nurses should be the patient's voice, ensuring their preferences and values are considered in the care plan.
They should champion the ethical and moral aspects of care. Moreover, nurses should continue to educate themselves about the latest
technologies and incorporate them into their practice, recognizing the potential benefits they offer. However, they should also critically
evaluate how technology impacts patient care, ensuring it does not compromise the fundamental principles of nursing care.

In conclusion, nurses can ensure they do not lose their caring role and virtue amid technological advances in healthcare by embracing
patient-centered care, strong communication, patient advocacy, and ongoing education. Technology should be viewed as a tool to enhance
their capabilities, not as a replacement for their caring and compassionate presence in patient care. Balancing the art and science of nursing
is the key to preserving the core values of the profession.
HOW WILL
ROBOTS AFFECT
NURSING?
UX leader Sean Gerety once said that "The technology you use impresses no one. The experience you create with it is everything." Robots
have the potential to significantly impact nursing in various ways. This can free up nurses' time, allowing them to focus on more complex and
specialized aspects of patient care. Robots are making significant inroads into the field of nursing, and their impact is both promising and
complex.

On the positive side, robots can assist nurses by performing repetitive tasks, such as delivering medications, taking vital signs, and
transporting supplies. This can free up nurses' time for more critical aspects of patient care, reducing their workload and potentially
preventing burnout. Robots can also enhance patient safety by minimizing the risk of human errors in medication administration or patient
handling. Telemedicine robots allow nurses to remotely monitor patients, especially in critical care or remote areas, improving access to
healthcare. However, the introduction of robots raises concerns about the potential dehumanization of nursing. Maintaining the human touch,
empathy, and the therapeutic relationship between nurses and patients is crucial. While robots can aid with tasks, they cannot replace the
emotional and psychological support that nurses provide. Ethical and legal considerations surrounding robot-assisted care, like
accountability for errors, also need careful consideration. The nursing profession must adapt to the changing landscape, ensuring that nurses
remain at the forefront of decision-making and continue to be the primary caregivers.

In conclusion, robots will undoubtedly affect nursing by enhancing efficiency and safety, but nurses must balance their use with preserving
the core values of patient-centered care, empathy, and maintaining a strong human connection in healthcare. The integration of technology
should complement, not replace, the nursing profession.
