Opening Prayer

Almighty Father, we praise and

thank you for the opportunity
to learn today from our
facilitator and from one
another. Help us to focus our
hearts and minds on what we
are about to learn in this
subject.
Inspire us by your Holy Spirit so that
we may understand the lessons and
see its practical application in our
everyday activities.

Guide us by your eternal light as we

discover more truths about the
world around us. We ask this
through the intercession of St.
Thomas Aquinas, Amen.

PROBABILITY
SAMPLING
Random selection of sample
SIMPLE
RANDOM
SAMPLING
EVERY ELEMENT HAS AN
EQUAL CHANCE OF GETTING
SELECTED TO BE THE PART
SAMPLE.
STRATIFIED
SAMPLING
Within the group are
homogeneous and heterogeneous
among the other subgroups
formed.

And then, the elements are

randomly selected from each of
these strata.
SYSTEMATIC SAMPLING
Elements of a sample are chosen at regular intervals of population. All
the elements are put together in a sequence first where each element
has the equal chance of being selected.
• The entire population is divided
CLUSTER into clusters or sections and then
the clusters are randomly
SAMPLIN selected.
• Clusters are identified using
G details such as age, sex, location
etc.
SINGLE – STAGE
CLUSTER SAMPLING

Entire cluster is selected

randomly for sampling.
TWO – STAGE
CLUSTER SAMPLING

Researchers randomly select

clusters and then from those
selected clusters, researchers
randomly select elements for
sampling.
MULTI-STAGE
SAMPLING

Population is divided into multiple

clusters and then these clusters are
further divided and grouped into
various sub groups (strata) based on
similarity. One or more clusters can be
randomly selected from each stratum.
This process continues until the cluster
can’t be divided anymore.
NON - PROBABILITY
SAMPLING
Do not use random selection of sample.
A.K.A. Non-random Sampling
CONVENIENCE SAMPLING

The samples are selected based on the

availability. This method is used when the
availability of sample is rare and costly.
PURPOSIVE SAMPLING

This is based on the intention or the purpose of study. Only

those elements will be selected from the population which
suits the best for the purpose of the study.
TYPICAL SAMPLE

The REPRESENTATIVE of that population.

CRITICAL CASE
SAMPLE
THE SAMPLE IS CONSIDERED AS THE EXCEPTIONAL OR
HIGHLY UNUSUAL.
HOMOGENOUS SAMPLE

When all of the members of that group have

COMMON CHARACTERISTIC OR TRAIT.
THEORETICAL SAMPLE

Helps the researchers UNDERSTAND A NEW

CONCEPT OR THEORY.
EXTREME CASE SAMPLE

This is considered when all members of a group

DOES NOT FIT WITH THE GENERAL PATTERN or
display extreme characteristics
OPPORTUNISTIC SAMPLE

It is chosen when a study is in progress to take

advantage of new condition.
CONFIRMING
SAMPLE
THIS IS OBTAINED TO VALIDATE INITIAL FINDING
SUCH AS FOLLOW – UP INTERVIEW, AND ETC.
MAXIMAL VARIATION SAMPLE
IT IS SELECTED TO REPRESENT WIDE PERSPECTIVES OR
CHARACTERISTICS
QUOTA
SAMPLING

It selects the representative

sample from the population.
Proportion of characteristics/ trait
in sample should be same as
population.
SNOWBALL/
REFERRAL
SAMPLING
Used in the situations where the
population is completely unknown
and rare.
This will take the help from the first
element which the researchers select
for the population and ask him to
recommend other elements who will
fit the description of the sample
needed.

THE RESPONDENTS OF THIS STUDY ARE FIRST – YEAR LEVEL
COLLEGE STUDENTS OF ADAMSON UNIVERSITY WHO ARE
CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN PURPOSIVE COMMUNICATION SUBJECT
THIS SCHOOL YEAR 2018 – 2019 TAKING UP ANY OF THE FOLLOWING
COURSES SUCH AS BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN PHARMACY,
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ENGINEERING, BACHELOR OF SCIENCE
IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, AND BACHELOR OF SCIENCE. ALSO,
THE AGE OF THE RESPONDENTS MUST BE FROM 18 – 20 YEARS OLD.

PURPOSIVE LISTENING SKILLS OF SELECTED COLLEGE FRESHMEN STUDENTS: INPUT FOR

INTERACTIVE LISTENING MATERIAL
BARRERA, CASTRO AND FLORESCA (2019)
SAMPLE OF A SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

The respondents of this study are first – year level college students of Adamson University who are currently
enrolled in Purposive Communication subject this school year 2018 – 2019 taking up any of the following courses
such as Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration, and Bachelor of Science. Also, the age of the respondents must be from 18 – 20 years old.

The researchers used the probability sampling techniques. A probability sampling technique utilizes
random sampling to create a sample. Also, it uses statistical theory “to select randomly, a small group of
people from an existing large population and then predict that all their responses together will match the overall
population” (Bhat, 2018). Probability sampling technique is used for the reason that this study is only concerned
with the first – year level college students of Adamson University who are taking up Purposive Communication
this school year 2018 – 2019.
THE RESEARCHERS ARE AIMING TO INTERVIEW THREE
TEACHERS FROM THREE PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN MANILA.
AMONG THESE THREE TEACHERS, ONE MUST BE AN
ADMINISTRATOR OF THE SCHOOL, ONE MUST HAVE
STAYED IN THE SCHOOL FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS, AND ONE
MUST HAVE STAYED IN THE SCHOOL LESS THAN 5 YEARS.
THEY WERE SELECTED FOR THE CONVENIENCE
FAVORABLE TO THE RESEARCHERS BECAUSE OF THE
SCHOOLS’ LOCATIONS, IN MANILA, BEING NEAR TO THE
PROPONENTS.

THE BUREAUCRATIC SYSTEM ON PROVIDING ADEQUATE SALARY TO

PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS IN MANILA CITY
CADA, DUNGCA, FLORESCA, LACANILAO, SALAZAR, AND SANTIAGO (2019)
SAMPLE OF A SAMPLING TECHNIQUE

In selecting the participants of the interview, the researchers will use the purposive sampling to
select the population of the respondents. They are aiming to interview three teachers from three public
schools in Manila. Among these three teachers, one must be an administrator of the school, one must have
stayed in the school for at least 5 years, and one must have stayed in the school less than 5 years. They
were selected for the convenience favorable to the researchers because of the schools’ locations, in
Manila, being near to the proponents.

THE DOMINICAN BLESSING
May God the Father bless us.
May God the Son heal us.
May God the Holy Spirit enlighten us,
and give us eyes to see with,
ears to hear with,
hands to do the work of God with,
feet to walk with,
a mouth to preach the word of salvation with,
and the angel of peace to watch over us and lead us at
last,
by our Lord's gift, to the Kingdom.

St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for us.
