RATIONALE

In the past decades, the Department of


Health (DOH) has been campaigning against
firecrackers-related injuries during holiday
season, alternately using positive and
negative approaches to promote the
advocacy.
RATIONALE
This year, the DOH will utilize a positive approach to
relay the message to the children not to use
firecrackers to avoid accidents this holiday season.

The campaign will now be called

IWAS PAPUTOK
MAHALAGA ANG BUHAY,
IWASAN ANG PAPUTOK
BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVE

To reduce the number of injuries


and deaths caused by:
a.fireworks/firecracker use
b. indiscriminate firing of guns
c. firecracker powder ingestion
d. fireworks-related non-neonatal
tetanus .
COMMUNICATION OBJECTIVE

To inform the public on how to prevent


injuries from firecracker use
To advise the public on the alternative
ways to spend the New Year’s Eve
To inform the public about proper
wound care to avoid tetanus

The following ten messages are to be disseminated to the


target audiences:
The Five Reminders for A Safe Yuletide
Celebrations:
1) Fireworks cause injuries and endanger health.
2) Children should not use any firework.
3) Keep safe and away from exploding fireworks.
4) Never pick used fireworks.
5) Seek immediate medical treatment for all firework
injuries.

Firecracker Injuries:
1) Promote and participate in the community fireworks
display in your area
2) Celebrate a safe holiday with family and loved ones
3) Use alternative noise-makers to welcome the New

4) Join merry-making activities such as street parties,
concerts, games
5) Use the time to reflect on the lessons of the past year
and make resolutions for a better 2015!
