What is Co-Dominance?

Codominance
• refers to a type of
inheritance in which two
versions (alleles) of the same
gene are expressed separately
to yield different traits in an
individual.
Who?

Gregor Mendel
discovered the
phenomenon
Who??? of
codominance while
studying polygenetic
traits and their
inheritance.
How? When?
•when the •plants and animals
phenotypes of both that have more than
parents are one pigment color
simultaneously
expressed in the same
offspring organism.
Examples of Co-Dominance in Animals
Examples of Co-Dominance in Plants
When?

•The genetic experiments Mendel

did with pea plants took him eight
years (1856-1863) and he published
Who???
his results in 1865. During this time,
Mendel grew over 10,000 pea
plants, keeping track of progeny
number and type. Mendel's work
and his Laws of Inheritance were
not appreciated in his time.
