 What is an analytical exposition text?

• It is a text that evaluates a topic critically but focuses only on one side of an
argument.
• We also use this in daily life in purpose to persuade others about something.
• The argument and point of view have to be supported by facts and relevant information.
The thesis statement has to be reiterated in the conclusion

 Characteristics of an exposition text

▧ It should be clearly state the point of view

▧ Use valid research findings to support your viewpoint

▧ Support the viewpoint with factual data like graphs, pictures, charts, etc.

Title

• Tells about the topic of the essay.

• Example:

The dangerous of drugs; The importance of reading habbit.

Introduction:
• This is the starting point of an expository essay.

• You state the topic and establish the point of view (thesis statement).

• Introductory statement should be an emotional statement or a question that is an attention

grabber.

• A preview of the points you plan to make a support your thesis (arguments).

Body:
• A series of arguments to convince the audience

• Each paragraph starts with a new argument

• Each paragraph has a main point, reason for the main point and evidence to support the main point

• Use emotive words, mental verbs, casual conjunction to persuade the audience

• Each paragraph has to be logically liinked to the previous paragraph and to the thesis statement

Conclusion:
• Reiterates or restates the thesis statement

• Summarize what has been stated

 Langage Features of Analytical Exposition Text

 Use descriptive persuasive words with emotive connotations to emphasize your viewpoint.
These words can either be positive or negative. USE THESAURUS TO FIND AN
APPROPRIATE WORD. For example:
- Instead of using "bad", use appealing, unfavorable, ghostly, terrible.
- Instead of using "good", use fantastic, increadible, momentous, remarkable.
- Instead of using "persuasive", use credible, realistic, rational, sane, coherent.

 Use the present tense such as: she eats, I eat, etc.
 Use mental verbs such as: i believe, i prefer, i agree, i doubt, i disagree.
 Use saying verbs to support the argument such as: people say, it is said, research indicates, etc.
 Using connecting words to link arguments so that the flow of the arguments is logical and fluent.
Example: additionally, furthermore, moreover, etc.
 Using casual conjunctions to indicate a cause or reason of what is being stated, for example:
because, due to, despite, in that case, even though, yet, etc.

 Use words that express the author's attitude to qualify or confirm. Example: will, may, must, in all
probability, doubtless, etc.
 Use persuasive techniques
 Use generalizations to support viewpoints or arguments. Generalizations are common beliefs, general
statements
 Use evidence and facts to back up the generalizations like using research, expert opinions,
terstimonies, or quotes.
 Use exaggerations to make things or issues appear better or worse than they actually are.

I personally think that English is the world’s most important language. why do I say that?

Firstly, English is an international language. It is spoken by many people all around the world, either as a first or

second language. Secondly, English is also the key which opens doors to scientific and technical knowledge, which is

needed for the economic and political development of many countries in the world. Thirdly, English is a top

requirement of those seeking jobs. Applicants who master either active or passive English are more favorable than

those who for not.

From the fact above, it is obvious that everybody needs to learn English to greet the global era.

 The importance of Reading habbit
I personally think that reaading is an iimportant activity in our life. Why do i say so?
Firstly, by reading we can get a lot of information about many things in the world such as science,
technology, sports, arts, and culture.
Secondly, by reading we can get a lot of news and knowledge about something happening in any part of the
world which we can see directly.
Thirdly, reading can give us pleasure. When we are tired, we can read books, newspaper, or magazines.
Fourthly, reading can also take us to other parts of the world. By reading a book Irian Jaya we may feel that
we are really sitting in the jungles.
Based on the facts above, it is obvious that everyone needs to read books, newspaper, magazines, news, etc.
In other words, we can say reading is truly important in our life
