Linear Text Two Types
of Text
and
Nonlinear Text
Objectives
Learners should be able to,
1. Differentiate the two types of texts: linear and
nonlinear texts.
2. Decode information from the linear and
nonlinear text.
3. Convert linear text to appropriate nonlinear text.
4. Write a short text explaining
paragraph the content
explaining of
the content of
a nonlinear text.
Take down notes.
Linear text signifies to all those
texts that you read from
beginning to the end where the
reader can think of the ideas by
reading sequentially.
Examples: poems, novels,
stories, and letters
Take down notes.

Nonlinear text refers to

text that does not need to
be read from beginning to
the end.
Nonlinear Text
1. Line graph is commonly applied to record and present
changes in data over a period of time.
Take down notes.
2. Circle graph, also called pie chart is used to show how the
whole of something is divided into parts.
Take down notes.
3. Bar graph works similarly to a line graph. It only differs in the use of
bars of different heights to show different values.
Take down notes.
4. Pictograph uses images to show the quantities of a data being
represented.
Take down notes.
5. Table is commonly used in presenting data in a most systematic and
organized way to easily locate specific or needed information.
Take down notes.
6. Graphic Organizers are commonly used in presenting and
organizing knowledge and ideas through graphical forms.
Take down notes.
7. Venn diagram is a visual presentation of similarities and differences
joining two concepts through an illustration that uses circles. This
Circles overlap has similarity while circles that do not overlap do not
share the same traits.

Activity 2: Save more Spend Less
As a young teen, Karen does not enjoy as much as other
teenagers would. She spent her weekends on looking for a job, so she
can pay her allowance. She spends (100.00) one hundred pesos for
her lunch, (80.00) eighty pesos for her fare and (20.00) twenty pesos
for classroom fees. She uses up (200.00) two hundred pesos a week.
She receives extra cash than what she needs for the week. On
Saturdays, she regularly went to her distant relative and wash
clothes for (100.00) one hundred pesos. After lunch, she volunteers
weeding at her neighbor’s backyard for an hour and gratefully
receives (50.00) fifty pesos for an extended work.
On Sunday after attending holy mass, she would iron out her
auntie’s office uniform for a fee of (100.00) one hundred pesos. She
stays on top and become one of the brightest students in her class,
despite her buy weekend schedule.
