Course Title: Literatures of the World


and Its Effect to
Development

Course Course Credit: Three

Pre-Requisites: None

Co-Requisites: None
This course exposes the students to explore on
major literary genres and their distinctive features through
the study of representative texts around the globe. There
will also be a closer look into the historical development
through literary writings as well as literary techniques and
devices used in the communication of these texts. Hence,
it will equip students with skills to critique literary
selections focusing on form, elements and thematic
aspects.
COURSE
This course shall focus on the connections
DESCRIPTION between the text and the context which will prepare the
students to adapt in the real world of diverse cultures and
points of view where respect and tolerance for differences,
open mindedness, productive collaboration and basic
understanding of human nature as well as the dynamics of
human relationship. Through these, students are geared
towards achieving communal goals and enlightenment that
may shape civilizations, change political systems, expose
injustices, and achieve national development.
At the end of the course, students will be

1. Enrollment in an E-Class
a. Enrollment in an E-Class will be automatic once you are
officially enrolled.

2. Communication and Feedback


COURSE b. Online Synchronous Communication shall happen as
indicated in the learning plan section of the syllabus.
POLICIES c. . Individual and group tasks, formative, and enabling
assessments, and reading tasks shall constitute
asynchronous activities. Teachers must be able to
respond to students’ queries/concerns within 48 hours
upon receipt of the same unless it falls on weekends or
holidays, which shall be handled promptly the
following working day.
c. MS Teams chat, SB messages, and DLSU-D e-mail shall be used
by students to send their queries or concerns to the teacher
concerned. SMS or any social media platform may be used by
COURSE students to send their concerns provided that they strictly comply
with data-privacy related laws. You may email your professor at

d. The time for sending queries by the students to his/her teacher


shall be capped or limited. It may be discussed and agreed upon by
the teacher and the students during the first day of class.
e. Teachers shall not be required to be online during
asynchronous classes.

COURSE f. No using of foul, curse, and other bad words,


POLICIES whether in written or verbal. No shouting. No flooding
of chat and messages. No selling.
3. Attendance Policy
a. Attendance Policy for Online Classes is scheduled
based on the learning plan. For fully online classes,
students are required to attend synchronous classes,
40% of absence (from synchronous classes) for the
entire semester means 0.0 final grade.
b. Students shall be excused from attending synchronous
COURSE classes if he/she has face-to-face classes on the same
day.
POLICIES c. Faculty members may require students to be on camera
at the start and end of the class, and during recitation.
d. During synchronous classes, students are required to
have decent background; otherwise, they need to apply
or use background effects/blur background when video
cam is on. Decent attire shall likewise be a
requirement.
e. A student may be excused from scheduled synchronous class due
to valid reasons such as disruptions of internet connections, serious
illness, death in the family, and any other reasons analogous to the
foregoing.

f. A scheduled synchronous class shall push through regardless of


the number of attendees.
COURSE
POLICIES g. Students may opt to stay or leave the scheduled synchronous
class if the teacher is late for 25 minutes. Students who opted to
leave shall not be marked absent when the teacher arrives late.

h. Upon agreement among the students, all synchronous classes


shall be recorded by the teacher. Recordings of synchronous classes
shall be made available to the students for viewing and review
purposes on MS Teams.

j. Students shall not be allowed to record the synchronous


meetings.

COURSE k. Synchronous and onsite attendance, engagement and recitation


POLICIES as well as asynchronous activity shall be included in the class
participation grade of 15%.

l. All synchronous meetings will be recorded and embedded into a


schoolbook page section. It will also be accessed by students at MS
Teams and other institutionally subscribed video hosting platform.

m. The synchronous and face to face meeting will only be held at


the schedule indicated in the registration form.
4. Intellectual Property Policy
a. Policy and copyright infringement will not be tolerated. Any
violation of such will earn students a grade of zero in the
assessment.
b. Using of any illegally obtained software is strictly
prohibited.
c. Students are encouraged to use their original photos, videos,
and other resources. Otherwise, students can use royalty-free
COURSE resources or embed the sources in their submissions to avoid
copyright infringement and/or plagiarism.
POLICIES d. Inviting people, that are not part of the class, in synchronous
meetings is strictly prohibited, unless approved by the subject
teacher. Posing as another person during a synchronous activity
is strictly prohibited.
e. Giving of password to Schoolbook and Office 365 is strictly
prohibited. Likewise, accessing Schoolbook and Office 365
account other than the students’ personal account is also strictly
prohibited. Violating students will be reported to the Student
Welfare and Formation Office (SWAFO).
5. Other Policies
a. Attire - students must wear decent casual or smart-casual
attire prescribed by the Student Handbook.
b. Microphone Use – microphone must be muted and only
unmuted when the teacher requires them to.
COURSE c. Video – videos may be used by the teacher to validate
attendance. As mentioned earlier, if the teacher wishes

d. d. Use of English is required for any presentation
including the question and answer. Tagalog or Taglish
can be used during consultation.
