ABOUT
JAPAN Japan is the most amazing tourist destination and it offers
many unique experiences that you cannot find in any other part of
the world. The culture of this country is an interesting blend of
Eastern traditions and Western modernity that can be seen
everywhere. Japan is one of the oldest civilizations and has a
beautiful and diverse history. The stunning, diverse scenery with
mountains and breath taking views, which are much appreciated by
the Japanese, offers so many different experiences that attract
tourists from all corners of the world.
HISTO
RY
The ancestry of Japanese people remains mysterious; however, there

are two competing hypotheses that try to explain the lineage of the Japanese

people.
The first hypothesis proposes a dual-structure model, in which
Japanese populations are descendants of the indigenous Jomon people and
later arrivals of people from the East Eurasian continent, known as
the Yayoi people. Japan’s indigenous culture originates primarily from the
Yayoi people who settled in Japan between 1000 BCE and 300 CE. Yayoi
culture spread to the main island of Honshu, mixing with the native Jōmon
culture.
JAPAN
CULTURE
Japanese culture is ancient and is filled with rites and traditions to
honor the family. Because Japan is an island country, it was able to
moderate the influence of other cultures for centuries. This allowed a
distinct culture and heritage to develop for the beautiful Land of the
Rising Sun.
With important rites of passage, festivals of celebration, and unique
dress and style, details from the lives of your Japanese ancestors will
brighten your family stories.
AR
T
The Japanese art includes a wide range of styles and means of expression, including
ceramics, sculpture, painting and calligraphy on silk and paper, the ukiyo-e woodblock
prints, origami and, more recently, manga along with a myriad of other types of artwork.
It has a long history as much as the culture of the country of the Rising Sun, which starts
from the beginning of human settlements, in about 10,000 BC, to the present.
SPORT
S
Sumo is Japan's famous national sport, but there are
many other traditional and not-so-traditional sports to
discover. Think of sport in Japan, and you'll likely
think of sumo. But don't forget to take the
opportunity to get to know some of Japan's other
traditional sports as well as so-called Western
imports.
LANGUA
GE
Japanese is the national and primary language of Japan.
Japanese has a lexically distinct pitch-accent system. Early
Japanese is known largely on the basis of its state in the
8th century when the three major works of Old Japanese
were compiled. The Japanese language has no genetic
relationship with Chinese, but neither does it have any
clear affiliation with any other language. There are a
number of theories about the origins of Japanese.
CUISI
NE
Japanese food is famous all over the world, but this cuisine is more than
just a tasty meal, it says a lot about Japanese culture. Culinary traditions
in Japan have developed over centuries and give us a rich insight into
the history of the country and the strong sense of nationality which is
prevalent here. UNESCO even added Japanese food to its intangible
cultural heritage list.
TRADITIONAL
CLOTHING
The kimono is the national garment of Japan, having developed from Chinese court clothing in
the Nara Period(Tang Dynasty China) following the exchange of diplomatic envoys between the
two countries at that time. The word kimono translates literally as "thing to wear on the
shoulders"; however, this term developed some time around the Edo period, before which most
kimono-like garments were referred to as the kosode ("short sleeve"), with longer-sleeved
garments being known as furisode("swinging sleeve").
RELIGI
ON
Religion in Japan is a wonderful mish-mash of ideas from Shintoism and
Buddhism. Unlike in the West, religion in Japan is rarely preached, nor is it
a doctrine. Instead it is a moral code, a way of living, almost
indistinguishable from Japanese social and cultural values.
