Introduction
• International Organization for Standardization (ISO) -an
independent, non-governmental organization, the members of
which are the standards organizations of the 169 member
countries.
• There are various types of ISO family of international
standards for QM
• ISO 9000 is one of them that help organizations consistently
meet customer expectations and improve their processes.
• It should be considered to be a first step or the base level of a
quality system (ISO 9000 is a quality system).
• It was first published in 1987 by the ISO.
• The standards underwent major revisions in 2000 and 2008,
latest on 2021.

Introduction Cont…….
• Certification as provision by an independent body of written assurance (a
certificate) that the product, service or system in question meets specific.
• ISO Certification is performed by external certification bodies, thus a
company or organization cannot be certified by ISO,
• Don't say: "ISO certified" or "ISO certification" DO say: "ISO 9001:2015
certified" or "ISO 9001:2015 certification" (for example)
• An ISO 9001 certificate must be renewed, in accordance with ISO 17021,
at regular intervals usually once every three years.
• An ISO audit is a systematic and objective examination of an
organization's processes, procedures, and practices to assess its
compliance with ISO standards, such as ISO 9001 (Quality Management
System).
• ISO audits can be conducted internally by an organization's own
personnel (internal audit), by customers or suppliers (second-party audit),
or by independent external auditors or certification bodies (third-party
audit).

Limitations
• ISO is the most popular quality management standard in the world. It
provides a framework for organizations to establish, implement, and
maintain an effective quality management system that will
consistently deliver safe, reliable products of good quality and
deliverable on time. While ISO is a widely recognized standard for
quality management systems. However, it does have some limitations,
including:

Limitations on effectiveness of ISO
• Lack of industry specificity
• Costly Initial Implementation
• Difficult to understand
• Unclear Benefits
• Limited focus on technical specifications
• Insufficient emphasis on material testing and
performance:
• Subjectivity in interpretation
• Lack of training

Limitation of ISO on Certification
• Resources and time
• Complexity
• Absence of attention to certain industries
• Documentation is significantly estimated
• Limited customer awareness
• Maintenance requirements

METHODOLOGY

Assignment of Quality Management , Group-F
Methodology ISO Certification
• ISO does not perform certification.
• ISO develops International Standards, such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, but is not
involved in their certification, and do not issue certificates. This is performed by external
certification bodies, thus a company or organization cannot be certified by ISO.
• However ISO's Committee on Conformity Assessment (CASCO) has produced a number
of standards related to the certification process, which are used by certification bodies.
• Remember, when labelling a product or system as certified to an ISO standard:
• Don't say: "ISO certified" or "ISO certification“ DO say: "ISO 9001:2015 certified" or
"ISO 9001:2015 certification
• ISO Certification – stages
• Step1. Develop a quality management system:
• Step2. Implement the new quality management system
• Step3. Schedule an external audit
• Step4. Register the quality management system
• It takes approximately 10 months to complete all the stages
• After obtaining certification-Organization must demonstrate, through internal follow-up
audits, that the processes documented to bring the company into standards compliance
are being followed.
