Classification obesity

Central Peripheral
Central obesity

■ This obesity is also called apple shape obesity or Android


type obesity. Lipid accumulation in the abdominal area,
both intraperitoneal and retroperitoneal. Hyperplasia of fat
cells and Waist-Hip Ratio occurs (WHR) > 0.90. This
obesity is more common in men
Peripheral obesity

■ Peripheral obesity is an accumulation of lipids found in the


lower part body, namely in the thigh and stomach area or
gluteofemoral region, so called gynecoid obesity or pear
shape obesity. The difference with central obesity is that in
this obesity there is hypertrophy of fat cells and Waist-Hip
Ratio (WHR) < 0.85. Obesity is more common in woman
The classification
The classification is:

• BMI below 18.5 ( underweight) :


This condition indicates weight loss; individuals with a BMI of less than 18.5
may experience health problems due to nutritional deficiencies.

• BMI below 18.5(normal):


This condition indicates weight loss; individuals with a BMI of less than 18.5
may experience health problems due to nutritional deficiencies.

• BMI ranges between 25 and 29.9(excess weight):


Being overweight or obese is a condition that increases the risk of type 2
diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
The classification is:
• BMI between 30 and 34.9(class I obesity):
■This condition is classified as class I obesity; individuals with a BMI below this
range have a greater likelihood of experiencing serious health problems.

• BMI between 35 and 39.9(class II obesity):


■This condition is class II obesity, which increases the risk of serious health
problems.

• BMI 40 or higher(class III obesity):


■This condition is classified as class III or extreme obesity ; Individuals with a
body mass index (BMI) that is in this value range have a greater risk of
experiencing health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and others.
