Welcome to the Thames Reading Challenge!

Read as many books as possible from each of these categories


and write a short review of each one.
Whoever reads the most books from the widest range of
categories will win a PRIZE.
Email your copy of these slides to Ms Vainker.
Deadline: Tuesday 5th September.

● Each book can only count for one category.


● Age categories for prizes:
○ Incoming year 7.
○ Year 8/9 (at Sept 23)
○ Year 10/11/12 (at Sept 23)
Categories
1. A translated novel
2. A novel written in a different century
3. A novel written by a woman
4. A novel written by a person of colour
5. A non-fiction history book
6. A book that has won a prize
7. A book that has been turned into a film or TV series
8. Life writing (autobiography, biography, diary, memoir etc)
9. A book with a colour in the title
10. A novel set in the future
11. A book with a number in the title
12. A book set in a country that is not the UK or the USA.
Where can I get books from?
● Are there already books in your home that you haven’t yet read?

● Public libraries in Wandsworth: These will let you borrow up to 15 books in one go, for up
to 3 weeks at a time. It is free to set up an account if you don’t have one yet.
Northcote Road, Battersea (Lavender Hill, just after Asda), York Gardens, Earlsfield
(Magdalen Road), Balham (behind Waitrose), Southfields (near the station) Tooting, Putney
…plus some others.

● Public libraries in Merton: Same as above.


Wimbledon, Raynes Park, Colliers Wood, plus others…

● You may borrow up to 3 books from the Thames library over the summer holiday.
These will be due back on Monday 4th September (first day of term).
