Rationale
IoT-Based technologies are very useful in home and in all establishments. Below are the reasons why
the researcher decided to conduct the study in the first place:

A. Energy efficiency: An IoT-based system can help in optimizing the energy consumption of
appliances. With the ability to remotely monitor and control appliances, it becomes easier to turn them
off when not in use, reducing overall energy consumption. ‘-
B. Cost savings: By monitoring the energy consumption of appliances, one can identify which
appliances are consuming more energy and take steps to reduce their usage. This can result in
significant cost savings in the long run.
C. Convenience: With an IoT-based system, users can remotely control their appliances from
anywhere, at any time. This means they can turn on their air conditioner before they arrive home, for
instance, or turn off the lights they forgot to switch off before leaving for work.

D. Convenience: With an IoT-based system, users can remotely control their appliances from anywhere, at any
time. This means they can turn on their air conditioner before they arrive home, for instance, or turn off the lights
they forgot to switch off before leaving for work. ‘-
E. Safety: The ability to remotely monitor appliances can also help in identifying potential safety hazards. For
example, if an appliance is overheating, the system can alert the user and take appropriate action, such as turning it
off.
F. Predictive maintenance: An IoT-based system can monitor the performance of appliances in real-time and
identify potential issues before they become major problems. This can help in scheduling preventive maintenance,
reducing downtime, and extending the lifespan of appliances.

3
Objectives
The main objective of this study is to create an IoT-based AC appliances monitoring and control system that
can:

a. To optimize the usage of AC powered appliances.

b. To reduce energy consumption.
c. To minimize electricity cost. ‘-
d. To avoid forgetting to turn off appliances.

Methodology
System Overview
The proposed system is consisted of three parts: smart phone application, base station and sensing node.
Starting from the bottom, the sensing node uses a hall-effect based AC current sensor and a transformer-
based AC voltage sensor with Arduino Uno microcontroller and NodeMCU to calculate the real-time power
consuming of connected electrical appliances

stakeholders and continuous improvement at every stage. Once
the work begins, teams cycle through a process of planning,
