What is a
conditional?
Conditionals
A conditional is a sentence that is composed of two clauses
and expresses a condition and its result.

Example :

If Mordred had not broken the treaty, he and King Arthur


would not have died.
Conditional Statements
express the result of a particular
action or condition.

Examples :
If you pray hard for it, you will receive
it.
If you invite me, I will come.
Conditional Statements

It deals with habits and general truths such as laws.

First Conditional
It is used in dealing with things that are possibly or likely to happen
in the future.

if/ when + simple present … will + base form


Examples :

First Conditional
It is also used for showing a condition that has not happened yet but
is likely to happen that will result in another thing happening in the
future.
Examples :

If the Time Traveller pulls the lever in his time machine, he will
travel in the future.

She will drive the car in case she finds the key.

Sometimes, the subordinator can be removed but still the
clause shows condition

to try to convince people that your opinion about something is
correct.

premise – is a statement in an argument that provides reason or


support for the conclusion.

conclusion - is a statement in an argument that indicates what the


arguer is trying to convince the reader/listener.
