What should I do first?
1. Read the front cover of the exam paper.
Approach:
Step 1 Look at the picture stimuli.
Step 2 Read question 1 (a) – (e) and highlight key words/command verbs.
Step 3 Check how many marks each part -question is worth so you spend your
time appropriately.
Step 4 Look again at the picture stimuli.
Step 5 Think about the best answer for each part question.
Step 6 Write the answers for 1 (a) – (e) in the spaces provided.

This is key –
you must have
written about
both moulds
and bacteria.
Section B: How do I tackle Q’s 8 and 9
• These questions only have one part each and are your opportunity
to really show the examiner what you know.
• Make sure you underline or highlight key words to keep you focused
as these question and worth a lot of marks and only assess AO4 –
analyse and evaluate.
• You know now to pay attention to the command verbs and number
of lines allowed for each question to be answered.
• The marks schemes for both of these will allow for accept and other
acceptable response, so don’t be afraid to think outside the box!
• Again they are criteria marked so its extended writing that’s needed
not just 1 mark per point.
