Torpedo ladle car

1
Laxminarayana.P
Introduction

• What is a Ladle ?
A Ladle is a refractory lined vessel which is used to collect and
transfer the Liquid Metal from one section to another in the Plant.

• What are the different types of Ladles generally used in a Steel plant ?
Generally there are two Types of Ladles Used for Metal Handling
Open Top Ladle
Torpedo Ladle

• How a Torpedo is advantageous over an Open Top Ladle ?

In an Open Top Ladle the loss of Metal temperature during

transportation from one shop floor to another generally 90 – 100 deg C. But
where as in torpedo Ladle it is only around 40-50 deg. C, which is advantageous
in energy saving at Steel making end.
