GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
The Danube Delta is located in the eastern extremity
of Romania, at the confluence of the Danube River
with the Black Sea
The delta is bordered by the Dobrogea Plateau in the
west, the Black Sea in the east and south, and Ukraine
in the north
FORMATION OF THE DANUBE DELTA
 The Danube Delta was formed by the
accumulation of alluvium at the discharge of the
Danube River into a former gulf of the Black Sea
The formation of the delta was influenced by the
following factors:
 - the large amount of alluvium transported
and deposited by the Danube
 - very low tides in the Black Sea basin
 - the very small depths of the continental
shelf
 - the existence of circular currents of the
Black Sea
RELIEF
 The relief of the delta is predominantly negative:
 - lacustrine depressions
 - channels
 - abandoned arms
CLIMATE
 The climate of the Danube Delta is temperate-
continental with Pontic influences
 Average annual temperatures reach 11°C
 Average temperature of January 0°C -2°C
 Average july temperature 22-23°C
 The average annual rainfall is between 350 - 450 mm /
year
 Winds: the winds, the winds of the west, the north-
east and the sea breezes
HYDROGRAPHY

 The hydrographic system of the delta includes:


 - the main arms of the Danube:
 Chilia, Sulina, Sf. Gheorghe
 - secondary arms
 - goosebumps
 -channel
 -Lakes
 - bălţi
 - mlaştini
VEGETATION
The vegetation of the delta is mostly represented by
vegetation specific to swamps (reeds, reeds, reeds,
mixed with dwarf willow) and occupies 78% of the
total area. Zavoaiele occupies 6% of the delta's surface,
being willow, ash, alder, poplar forests, which grow on
the river beds, being periodically flooded, and the
waterholes are covered by aquatic and floating
vegetation, occupying 2% of the delta's surface. Also,
there are forests on the Letea and Caraorman fields
and they consist of burmary oak, pedunculate oak,
ash, aspen, elm, climbing plants
FAUNA
It contains more than 320 species of birds as well as 45
species of freshwater fish in its many lakes and japs.
This is where millions of birds from different corners
of the Earth (Europe, Asia, Africa, the Mediterranean)
come to nest.
In the forests of the delta live wild pigs, wild horses,
jackal deer, reptiles, rodents, etc.
