FOOD PRESEARVATION
 Preservation of temperatures
Preservation of foods from going bad
PRESERVATION OF TEMPERATURES
Preservation of temperatures People mainly
find it difficult to preserve temperatures
that's the cold and warm temperatures.
SOLUTION
Though there has been an invention of
equipment that helps in the preservation
of the temperatures mainly the cold
temperatures ( fringes and freezers)
Vacuum flasks have also been put in
place to preserve the cold and warm
temperatures
FRIDGE CORNICAL FLASK
GAPS
This is still an issue since the machines mainly operate using
electricity which makes the process inefficient due to the
inconsistency in the power supply. This is a gap that's still
existing and is still an issue to be worked on to ensure a
consistent preservation of the temperatures.

Vacuum flasks have also still failed to ensure the preservation

since they can only hold these temperatures for a short
period of time.

This has made preservation harder most especially of the hot

temperatures since it mainly require people to keep harming
up the foods and drinks to ensure the hot temperatures.
This has made us to focus more on the preservation of
the hot temperatures since the cold temperature can
easily be kept or preserved by the fridge , freezer. And
basing on our product ( pot).

It's easier to keep mainly the liquids cold or cool due to

the ability keep mainly the liquids cold or cool due to
the ability of the clay that's used in the making of the
pots to absorb coldness and keep it for a longer period
of time compared to keeping warmth for a longer
period of time.
PRESERVATION OF FOODS FROM
GOING BAD
There has also been a challenge when it comes to the
keeping of cooked foods for a longer period without
them going bad since they can't easily be kept warm
for the desired period of time which promoting a high
rate of food wastage in society.
SOLUTION
Coming up of devices like the micro waves which help to
re-warm the foods.
GAPS
The inability of these devices to keep these foods warm
for a longer period has remained an issue of concern
and has prompted us as designers to mainly focus on
how to try and fix this gap and ensure that the foods
can at least be kept for a longer period in order to
reduce the issue of food wastage. This can only be
achieved in case these foods are kept warm which does
give the room for bacteria, that mainly causes the food
to go bad.
FRAGILABILITY OF THE CLAY USED
The clay that's used in the making of the pots when
fired becomes fragile and this leads to the easy break‐
age of the pots or clay items when a lot of pressure is
applied onto them. This has mainly discouraged
people from using the items since they are also
expensive to purchase compared to the metallic and
plastic items like the sauce pans. This is slow padding
to the fading away of the pots from society .
SOLUTION
Metallic cooking gadgets which are not fragile were
introduced
GAPS
these materials are very dangerous to the human life
since these materials are industrially made out of
substances that are toxic to the human body and are
harmful in the long run. As these substances keep
piling in the body, they keep damaging different body
organs and in the end cause cancer issues. This is an
issue that majority of the people in society are
unaware of due to the luck of knowledge and
sensitization from the professionals.
FOOD PREPARATION
Bulky and dirty fuel
Difficulty in cleaning
Difficulty in heat regulation during cooking
BULKY FUEL AND DIRTY FUEL
Fuel such as firewood and charcoal are hard to
transport from their sources to places from where they
are used
SOLUTION
This has been solved by implementing electric and gas
cookers which are clean and their fuel is not bulky
GAPS
The initial costs for gas and electric cookers are high
and are not affordable by local people
Difficult to maintain;
 in upcountry where there is inaccessibility to electric
power to run the electric cookers
 Re-filling the gas cylinder with gas fuel is not done in
every place most especially in far to go areas
DIFFICULTY IN CLEANING
Hardships in cleaning soot stains on cooking materials
such as saucepans
SOLUTION
Steel wires have been implemented to help in cleaning
of the soot stains on metallic cooking gadgets
GAPS
Steel wires are dangerous in that, some particles may
stay in the saucepan or any other cooking gadget and
once particles mix with the food , they damage the
intestines of the person who consumes that food
leading to death
DIFFICULTY IN HEAT REGULATION DURING
COOKING

When using fire wood or charcoal, it is hard to

regulate heat which may cause the food to stay half
cooked( for very low temperatures) or burning before
being ready (very high temperatures beyond required)
SOLUTION
The electric cookers, hot plates and gas cookers which
have been invented can supply heat at a stable rate
GAPS
When food gets ready, all the gadgets listed before
keep on supplying the heat, this may cause food
burning if there is no human supervision.

If it could detect that food is ready and then switches

off automatically.
STORAGE OF LIQUIDS
The liquids stored in the pots could pour when pots
would be tilted due to wide opening and leads which
were not firm
SOLUTION
Jerry cans with narrow opening and firm covers were
invented to solve such a problem
GAPS
It is s difficult to clean inside the jerry cans to remove
dirt in all corners and even some develop algae which
is dangerous to human life when taken in the body

As product designers, we can create a material which

can clean a jerry can effectively or create a new design
of a jerry can which is easy to clean
conclusion
We are still ideating on how we can come up with a product that
provides solutions to the gaps we have seen in the products
available
