Definition
• Western culture is characterized by a dominant set of values, beliefs, and
practices that center around the use of logic which are stemmed from the rapid
technological expansion and the booming industrial revolution as well as the spread
of Western imperialism. (Smith, 2013)

• Western culture emphasizes the use of individualism which is the

concept of being independent and self-reliant in different aspects of
society. However, sociopolitically, it is defined as the state of being
individually free to act rather than being controlled by the state or
collectivized by a particular group of persons.

SELF-APPLICATION
• This concept — Individualism, resonates with
my inner philosophy because I have always been
on constant practice to be self-reliant and avoid
asking for assistance as much as possible
especially on personal and major life aspects.
EASTERN CULTURE
Definition
An umbrella term for various cultural heritages of social
norms, ethical values, traditional customs, belief systems,
political systems, artifacts and technologies of the Eastern
world.
Eastern ideologies, or Oriental thought, posit that
"the self" is an illusion, and that we are all
interconnected.

• The concept of eastern culture, especially the
concept of family is, I think, an essential factor
that is important for our growth and identity as
