▰ Is a mechanism that takes place in 100% of people.

▰ Consists of a sudden release of air due to a quick

contraction of the thoracic cavity.

▰ Its main function is mucus clearance.

▰ Produces the deformation of the airways.

OBJECTIVES

▰ Develop a model that allows to study the mucus clearance

during cough in the trachea, considering the deformation of
the airways.
▰ Analyze how and how much the characteristics of the trachea,
the cough and the mucus, as well as their conditions, affect the
effectiveness of the cough.
▰ Obtain a relation between the variation of these parameters
and the diameter reduction of the trachea, as well as its
consequences.
▰ Study how determinant cough is in mucus clearance.

▰ Model trachea perform achieved.

▰ Wall thickness is the most relevant structure parameter in

trachea deformation

▰ In the other hand both Young modulus of the cartilage and the
smooth muscle are of little importance.

▰ Finally , cough has the most importance both in the

deformation of the trachea and the mucus clearance..
