The ascending aorta sits atop the left ventricle on the left
side of your heart. It extends up and over the heart. It’s
located in your chest right behind the “breastbone”

The aortic arch ends at the level of the T4 vertebra
THERE ARE 3 MAJOR BRANCHES
ARISING FROM THE AORTIC ARCH:
brachiocephalic artery:
supplies right upper limb and right side of head; divides into carotid
and subclavian arteries
left common carotid artery:
second branch of the aortic arch, transports blood to the left side of
the head and neck
left subclavian artery:
Third branch of the aortic arch that distributes blood to the left arm
it’s connected to the pulmonary trunk by ligamentum “arteriosum”
which is vestigial remnant of the ducts arteriosus which is part of the
fetal circulation
