SCALE USED IN DISEASE

MEASUREMENT

FARYAL NISAR
ROLL NO 36
There are 4 scales are used in disease
measurement:

Nominal scale
Ordinal scale
Interval scale
Ratio scale
1:Nominal scale
A scale that simply given names to different
conditions and therefore is not strictly a scale at
all.
A nominal scale is 1st level of measurement scale
in which the no serves as (tags)or (labels) to
classify or identify the object.
EXAMPLE: Gender , Country and Players T-shirt no
2:Ordinal scale
It includes statistical data type where
variables are in order or rank but without
a degree of differences between
categories.
EXAMPLE : Ranking of students 1st , 2nd ,
3rd
3:Interval scale
The interval scale is a quantitative
measurement scale where there is order, the
difference between the two variables is
meaningful and equal, and the presence of
zero is arbitrary.
 It measures variables that exist along a
common scale at equal intervals.
EXAMPLE: Measurement of temperature
and time
4:Ratio
A ratio scale is a quantitative scale where there
is a true zero and equal intervals between
neighboring points.
 Unlike on an interval scale, a zero on a ratio
scale means there is a total absence of the
variable you are measuring. Length, area, and
population are examples of ratio scales.
EXAMPLES : Weight , Height , Distance
