ART IN

BOTANY
Group 6
BRIEF BACKGROUND

Botany is a branch of biology that deals with plants,

including the study of the structure, properties, and
biochemical processes of all forms of plant life, as well
as plant classification, plant diseases, and the interactions
of plants with their physical environment. In this study,
we will find out how Botany be related to Arts and how
important it is to know.
HISTORY
Plants were of paramount importance to early humans, who
depended upon them as sources of food, shelter, clothing,
medicine, ornament, tools, and magic. This means that plants
highly help the early civilization to strive and innovate by
providing such resources for their survival. As time goes by,
Joseph Priestley theorized photosynthesis in year 1774. Priestley
found out that there are chemical reactions occurring in plants that
results in the production of oxygen that is essential for mostly all
living things.
HOW COULD THIS BE
RELATED TO ARTS?
Flowers and plants can be used to
create a sense of atmosphere or mood
in a piece of art. For example, an artist
might use a dark, foreboding forest
scene to create a sense of fear or
mystery, or they might use a sunny
meadow full of wildflowers to create a
sense of peace and tranquillity.
USE OF ART IN
LEARNING BOTANY

In the past, our scientist uses

drawings/paintings in recording their
observations upon studying Botany. Many
scientist uses art as a medium for
documentation since printing is not yet
available in the early years.
ROBERT HOOKE

Robert Hooke (July 18, 1635–March 3, 1703) was a 17th-

century "natural philosopher" he is an early scientist who noted
for a variety of observations of the natural world. But perhaps
his most notable discovery came in 1665 when he looked at a
sliver of cork through a microscope lens and discovered cells.
He studied the plant cells with the use of his microscope and
wrote down his observations in his book named
MICROGRAPHIA.
MICROGRAPHIA

His Micrographia was a landmark in the study and

depiction of the natural world's smallest objects and
creatures, previously unobserved by the naked eye.
Micrographia was the first book in English to show
observations made under a microscope. It recreates
these in large, full-page (sometimes fold-out)
illustrations.
CONCLUSION
Studying Botany helps us understand different purposes of plants in our
lives. Even the tiniest living plant organisms provides us safe air to
breathe.
In addition, in terms of arts, plants are very useful by providing elements
that gives more life or scenery in creating our artworks. Lastly, with the
help of art, our scientist able to share their amazing observations to us
now. Without art we will be left with confusion and unfamiliarity.
