The cylinder head or in
English called the
cylinder head is the
covering component of
the combustion chamber
cylinder block. Its
presence makes burning
possible.
CYLINDER HEAD
Kepala silinder atau dalam
bahasa Inggris disebut head
cylinder adalah komponen
penutup blok silinder
Ruang pembakaran.
Keberadaannya membuat
pembakaran bisa terjadi.

THE FUNCTION OF THE PART CYLINDER HEAD

Adjusting shimp: Functions to open the valve gap.

Valve lifter: Functions to lift the valve.
Inlet valve: Functions to open and close the inlet according to the work cycle.
Exhaust valve: Functions to open and close the exhaust channel according to the work cycle.
Valve guide: Functions as a conductor for valve movement.
Spark plug (spark plug): Functions to burn the mixture of air and fuel by creating a spark.
Gasket: Functions as a function between the cylinder head and the cylinder block.
Water Jacket: Functions as a cooling water channel.
Combustion chamber: Where the mixture of air and fuel burns.
Cylinder block: functions as a combustion chamber and cylinder head.
Piston: converts the heat energy produced in the combustion chamber into mechanical power.
Valve seat: functions as a valve head seat.
Oil seal: functions to hold the oil together so that it doesn't leak and can cause problems with the engine
later. Valve keeper: functions to maintain/lock the valve.
For the intake manifold: functions to connect to the exhaust manifold.
For exhaust manifold: functions to connect to the intake manifold.
Cylinder Head Function
The cylinder head is installed at the top of the engine
which functions to withstand combustion pressure,
control heat, seat the valve mechanism and the fuel
injection mechanism. Cylinder heads must meet the
following requirements:

– Can withstand combustion pressure and heat

concentration.
– Has a high cooling effect.
– Can prevent overall combustion pressure leaks.
– Can flow intake and exhaust air smoothly.
– Can mix air with fuel perfectly.

Apart from that, the cylinder head will form a combustion

chamber together with the cylinder and piston. This
component is made of cast iron. There are also cylinder
heads made from cast iron alloy with alloys of nickel,
chrome, molybdenum and others for use in supercharged
engines that can withstand high temperatures.
Sequence When tightening the cylinder head bolts, there are two sequence methods that can be
chosen. The first is the criss-cross method and the second is the circular method.

The first bolt to be tightened is bolt number 1 followed by number 2 and so on until
number 8. Checking the tightening of the bolts is also carried out in the same order
as the tightening process.
The second way to tighten the bolts is the circular method. As shown in the picture
above, the circular method of tightening is done from the centermost bolt, starting
from the starting point of the circle guide line. Just like the crossing method,
checking is also done in the same order.
Maintenance and Repair:

a. Keep the entire cooling chamber inside the cylinder head clean, make sure it is completely
filled with cooling water, don't let "air" get trapped in it, this can cause cracks in the
cylinder head.
b. Keeping the cooling water temperature stable when the main engine is working or not
working, this can also cause cracks in the cylinder head.
c. Experience with the Main Propulsion Engine made by "AKASAKA" with a power of
1,200 HP, is called a "warning" that the temperature of the engine cooling water must be
maintained at 750 - 800 when the engine is working or not working, the ship is at sea or in
port.
d. The entire surface of the cylinder head setting and attached valves must always be flat
and clean, because damage to any part of this surface can result in damage to the entire
cylinder head unit.
