• Conclusion
Introduction

• Water is essential for living organisms.

• It is also a basic need for any planning and development.

• Due to increase in demand of water, human extract more

water from ground water table due to that depth of ground
water table is reducing.

• For recharging ground water table we need to plan the

watershed management.

• QGIS is helpful for extracting contours, defining slopes,

generating land use, land cover map and project result
representation.
Problem Statement

• In some areas rainfall rate is low and hence there will

form situation of drought.

• People do not know about how to conserve rainwater.

• Due to cutting of trees soil pollution is increasing. It will

results in ground water table reduction.

• Low water table affect on open wells, tube wells.

• People explore water due to dry wells.

• Health and wealth issues are started because of drought.

Objectives

• At the end of this project people would be know the importance of

watershed and needs of it to living creatures.

• Increase the water Table in a particular area.

• To create base map for the study area by using Google Earth.

• QGIS used for mapping, area calculation and result representation.

Watershed Management

• Watershed management is planning, guiding, and

organizing land use so that desired goods and services are
produced from a watershed without harming soil productivity
and water resources .

• Goods and services produced from watersheds include food,

forage for livestock and wildlife , wood and other forest
products, outdoor recreation , wildlife habitat , scenic
beauty, and water. Essential to watershed management is the
recognition that production must be accompanied by
environmental protection.
 Importance of Watershed management

• Flood and its mitigation and control.

• Erosion and sedimentation control

• Water Quality and Quantity Management.

• Irrigation and Water supply Management.

• Groundwater Harvesting.

• Land Management.
QGIS (previously known as Quantum GIS) is a free and open-source
cross-platform desktop geographic information system (GIS)
application that supports viewing, editing, and analysis of geospatial
data.

Application Of QGIS in our project

• Initial mapping, area measurement, contours, catchment area

finding, etc.

• Final outcomes of project will be represent on QGIS for further

study and researches.
Study Area Details

• The selected area lies in North Maharashtra state boundary.

• Latitude 19°56ʹ32.72ʺ N and Longitude 73°36ʹ32.79ʺ E
• Elevation of 591 m above M.S.L.
• It covers total area of 8.6429 sq.km include one village.
• The village having population of 2,010 peoples. There are about 382
houses in vadholi village.
• Trimbak is nearest town to vadholi which is approximately 15 km away.
• Average annual rainfall about 980 mm.(Dry period from January to May)

PAPER TITLE AUTHOR YEAR DESCRIPTION

A CASE STUDY OF WATERSHED Pandurang D. Jankar, Dr. Mrs. Sushma S. 2013 study gives the overall watershed
MANAGEMENT FOR MADGYAL VILLAGE Kulkarni management for a madgyal village. Some
measures have been adopted to recharge the
ground water resources.

WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT- A CASE STUDY Mr. Vishal P. Kumbhar, Mrs. Vidula A. 2013 A study gives the importance of waster shed
Swami, Mrs. Sushma S. Kullarni management and actual implementation of
watershed management in village.

WATER BALANCE STUDY OF WATERSHED P.L.Kashinde, Dr. K.A. Patil 2017 A study of watershed in Aurangabad
USIBG QSWAT IN AURANGABAD DISTRICT district .QGIS interface is used to create
different thematic layers such as soil, land use
etc.

WATERSHED DELINATION USING GIS IN B. Kaviya, Om Kumar, Ram Chandra 2017 Study about watershed delination using GIS in
SELAIYUR AREA Verma, Ramesh kumar ram SELAIYUR area. River drainage is extracted for
digital elevation data using D8 algorithm
available within arc gis toolbox.
Scope of Project

• Scope of this project is the engineering features which are

involved in hydrological process are known.

• The creation of watershed is made based on the profile of the area

like slope, contour, permeability, soil properties, etc. with the help
of QGIS.

• This project will helps for further study of hydrology.

Tests On Soil Sample

• Sieve Analysis

• Standard Proctor Test

• Determination Of Specific Gravity By

Pycnometer

• Determine Moisture Content Of Soil

• Determination Of Liquid Limit

Benefits of study

• Ecological Health : A watershed area conserves water, promotes

stream flow, supports sustainable stream, rivers, lakes and
groundwater sources.

• Economic Health : A healthy watershed produces energy and supplies

water for agriculture, industry and households. Forests and wetlands
helps to prevent or reduce climate changes, manages drought,
contributes to tourism, fisheries, agriculture and mining industries.

• QGIS gives important information about study area without

reconnaissance survey for fast and accurate study.
Expected Outcome

• We are expecting that, ground water table will increase after

completion of project as compare to initial situation.

• Reduction in efforts of people taken for water exploration.

• We expect that there will be a happiness in drought prone areas after

completion of our project.

• Less human errors and accurate calculations in software gives better

results.
 CCT work in watershed area
 Check Dam work in watershed area
Remark

• Watershed management is improve the adequacy of natural resource.

• It prevent the soil erosion, water wastage and increase water table.

• QGIS and google earth helps to find values of slope, contours etc.
without any calculation.

• QGIS is found very easy to use and provides more satisfactory result in
short time as compare to conventional planning. The planning cost
reduction is also significant.

• By application of watershed management we found the amount of water

remains in dry seasons.
