Auxiliary Views

Types of Auxiliary Views
 There are three types of ordinary auxiliary views based on the
dimension on the it.
1. Depth Auxiliary: A depth auxiliary view is derived
from a front view of an object and will show true depth.
 the edge view of the inclined surface is shown on front view

2. Width Auxiliary: A width auxiliary view is derived

from a side view of an object and will show true width.
 the edge view of the inclined surface is shown on side view

3. Height Auxiliary: A height auxiliary view is derived

from the top view of an object and will show true
height.
 the edge view of the inclined surface is shown on top view

Constructing an Auxiliary View
1. Fold-Line Method
 An auxiliary plane generated, is
perpendicular and hinged to the
plane in which the inclined
surface is shown as edge view.
 Orthographic lines are projected
from adjacent views across fold
lines.
 Object distances (M) from fold
lines are obtained from related
views.

2. Reference-Line Method

Step 1:Start with a multiview drawing of an object that contains 1
inclined surface. In this case, the inclined surface for which
the auxiliary view will be created is shown as 2 inclined edge in
the front view.

Step 2: Determine which true dimension will be shown by the auxiliary 1 view
and identify reference edges on the proper existing view.

which the auxiliary view will be projected.

be perpendicular to the inclined edge. 4

Partial and Complete Auxiliary Views
Partial Auxiliary View
 Partial auxiliary view shows only the details for the
inclined surface projected and drawn in the auxiliary view.
 Saves time and produces a drawing that is much more
readable

11/20/2023 9
Complete Auxiliary View
 Complete auxiliary view are the auxiliary view which
shows the details of the inclined surface and other
projected surfaces and lines on the auxiliary plane.

Curves in Auxiliary Views

 Curves in auxiliary views are handled by the offset

coordinate method.
