2 Major Parts of RRL

1. Conceptual Literature – contains literature

coming from books, journalism, and other forms of
material, concerning or relevant to the study, but
are data-free or non-empirical material, coming
from both foreign and local sources.

NOTE:

A review of related literature and studies

(RRL) isn’t a collection of all the literature
available on the internet. Critical thinking is
important to decide whether a study is relevant
and should be included in your list of related
studies.
Writing the RRL and Related Studies
RESEARCH I
ACTIVITY 1: T or F

_________1. A review of related literature is a compilation of all the literature connected to

my research topic, whether relevant or not.
_________2. Selecting literature requires critical thinking. Asking about the significance of
the literature in question is essential to maintain focus on the research topic.
_________3. A study published in an ISI-indexed journal is more credible than a study
published in a blogging website.
_________4. Reading related literature does not imply a passive attitude towards the paper.
Having an active attitude towards reading, such as making comparisons between studies, is
one way to make a good review of related studies.
_________5. Literature used in making Chapter II must not only be relevant to the topic
but also based on credible, recent, and bias-free sources.
