CORONAL MASS  A coronal mass ejection is a huge cloud of plasma that
EJECTIONS erupts from the Sun and often occurs together with
solar flares which are huge and strong.
 It is an ejection of magnetic gas particles.
 A significant release of plasma and accompanying
magnetic field from the Sun's corona into the
heliosphere.
 Spouts magnetic particles at high speeds into outer space
and appears like an expanding cloud.
 These magnetic particles from coronal mass ejection take
 Plasma=a state of matter similar to gas, but with
three days to reach Earth.
most of the particles ionized.
 Like the charged gas particles in solar flares, the magnetic
 Aurora=is a natural light display in Earth's sky,
gas particles also react with atoms and molecules in

Earth’s atmosphere to produce aurora.
SOLAR WIND
• Particles in plasma such as electrons, proton
SOLAR WIND
and alpha particles that erupt from the sun to
outer space travel together at high speeds.
• Carries the interplanetary magnetic field along
with it
• Speed of solar wind= 250 km s-1 to 750 km s-1
• Speed, temperature and density of the solar
wind changes along the course of its
movement.

• Interplanetary magnetic field=part of the Sun's

magnetic field that is carried into interplanetary
space by the solar wind.
